Minhwa is the painting with strong national characteristics based on the tradition of public culture, where life philosophy, emotion, aesthetic sense and sentiments unique to our people are expressed through the form of painting.
It shows well Korean beauty as it presents what is popularized and latent not only to partial common folks but to the whole people and it is representative painting where the aesthetic sense and sentiments of our people are expressed in tangible form.
Main characteristics of Minhwa are frontality, simultaneity, solidity, exaggeration, impersonation, fantasy. And its local subjects, extreme color effect, plainness, simplicity, abstraction, free movement of time, symmetrical expression, and dynamic expression correspond with modern aesthetic sense and can be valuable elements applicable to various modern items.
