    The purpose of the present study is to examine markers of working alliance rupture that counselors identify during counseling processes. Using concept mapping, the present study 1) extracted the contents of the markers of working alliance rupture 2) identified the final contents of the markers of working alliance rupture 3) examined the dimensions and clusters of the markers of working alliance rupture that counselors perceived, and 4) explored the significance of clusters about the markers of working alliance rupture that counselors rated.
    In the initial stage, interview questions were selected based on preliminary interviews. By interviewing 25 counselors from various backgrounds, 547 descriptions were identified.
    In the second stage, three experts synthesized the 547 items using the concept mapping methodology, which yielded 105 items. Ten counselors rated appropriateness of those items, resulting in the final 74 descriptions.
    During the third phase, 90 counselors rated the similarity and significance of the final 74 descriptions. Multi-dimensional scaling analyses revealed two dimensions, the ‘locus of perceived rupture’ and ‘involvement level’ dimensions. Cluster analyses showed four clusters, ‘aggressive dissatisfactory expressions from client’, ‘confusions of counseling relationships boundary’, ‘low involvement of client’, and ‘counselor’s negative response’. When cluster analyses were performed for the raw data to test whether the analyses truly represent actual counselors' opinions, 5 major clusters and 10 minor clusters were identified. Contents of the clusters were remarkedly similar with the previous analysis, except that the 'counselor's negative response' in the previous analysis was further differentiated into two clusters. in the major cluster of ‘counselor’s low involvement and withdrawal’, which was a new cluster, two minor clusters of ‘counselor’s low involvement’ and ‘counselor’s low self confidence and withdrawal’ were included. Another major cluster of ‘counselors’ negative response’ had two minor clusters of ‘counselor’s aggressive intervention’ and ‘counselor’s negative covert response’. In the clusters of ‘confusions of counseling relationships boundary’, one minor cluster with the same title was included. The cluster called ‘client’s low involvement’ included two minor clusters called ‘client’s non involvement and non compliant behaviors’, and ‘client’s withdrawal behaviors’. Finally, three minor clusters called ‘expression of dissatisfaction about counseling results’, ‘client’s cynical and rejective attitude’, and ‘client’s challenge against intervention’were extracted under the major cluster called ‘client’s confrontational expressions of dissatisfaction’.
    In the final stage, counselors' perceived significance of markers of working alliance rupture were examined. The average significance rate was 4.46 out of 7, suggesting that the descriptions in the present study were generally considered important markers. Among the clusters, counselors rated 'counselors' negative response' and 'counselor's low involvement and withdrawal ' relatively more important than others.
    The present study demonstrated various markers of working alliance rupture that counselors perceived during the counseling process. The information revealed from the present study can provide a background data for efficient intervention programs for crisis management during counseling, as well as for counselor’s own checklists during the counseling processes. It can also served a tool to counselors' training programs to enhance their sensitivity about counseling phases.

    기존에 이루어진 많은 작업동맹 위기-해결 과정에 대한 연구들은 주로 ‘해결’ 과정에 초점을 맞추어 모델을 개발하고 효과를 검증해왔다. 그러나 해결 개입의 첫 단계로써 무엇을 ‘위기’로 간주할 것인지에 대해 포괄적이고 다각적인 탐색이 부족했다. 내담자들이 상담자 및 상담에 대한 부정적인 경험을 표현하지 않는 경향이 있다는 점과 주로 상담자가 위기 해결 과정을 시작한다는 여러 연구결과를 종합하면, 상담자들의 작업동맹 위기에 대한 인식이 특히 중요하다는 것을 알 수 있다.
    따라서 상담자들이 무엇을 작업동맹의 위기로 인식하는지 위기의 내용과 저변의 인식구조를 탐색하는 것이 필요하다. 그러나 작업동맹 위기는 내적인 경험이므로 위기의 존재를 탐지하는 것은 어렵다. 상담자들이 실제로 위기의 존재를 탐지하는데 사용하는 구체적인 ‘표지’(marker)들을 탐색하여 파악한다면 이러한 탐지의 어려움을 보완할 수 있다.
    본 연구의 목적은 상담자들이 무엇을 작업동맹 위기의 표지로 인식하는지를 탐색적으로 확인하는 것이다. 상담자들이 인식하는 작업동맹 위기 표지의 내용을 추출하고 이 내용을 기초로 개념도 방법을 사용하여 작업동맹 위기 표지에 대한 상담자들의 주요 인식 차원 및 군집을 확인하였다.
    본 연구는 (1) 작업동맹 위기 표지의 내용을 추출하고, (2) 추출된 내용을 종합하여 작업동맹 위기 표지의 최종 목록을 선정하며, (3) 작업동맹 위기 표지에 대한 상담자들의 인식의 차원과 군집을 확인하고, (4) 상담자들의 작업동맹 위기 표지에 대한 중요도 평가를 탐색하는 과정을 통해 진행되었다.
    첫 번째 단계에서, 초점 질문의 개발 및 예비면접 과정을 통해 면접을 위한 질문을 선정하고 면접 방식을 결정하였다. 그리고 상담자 경력수준, 접근법, 상담현장별로 다양하게 표집된 상담자 25명을 대상으로 개별면접을 통해 작업동맹 위기 표지에 대한 진술문 547개를 추출하였다.
    두 번째 단계에서, 추출된 547개의 진술문을 3인의 전문가가 개념도 방법에서 추천되는 문항 축약 절차(item reduction procedure)를 따라 중복과 적절성을 고려하여 종합, 편집하였다. 이 과정을 통해 진술문은 105개로 축약되었고 이 진술문에 대해 10명의 상담자들이 적절성을 평정한 결과를 바탕으로 74개의 진술문이 최종 채택되었다.
    세 번째 단계에서, 상담자 90명을 대상으로 74개 진술문에 대한 유사성 분류와 중요도 평정을 실시하였다. 유사성 평정 결과를 비유사성 행렬표로 작성하여 다차원척도 분석을 실시한 결과, ‘지각된 위기의 소재(locus of perceived rupture) 차원’과 ‘관여 수준(involvement level) 차원’이라는 명칭의 2개 차원이 확인되었다. 다차원척도 분석을 통해 산출된 좌표값을 사용하여 군집분석을 실시한 결과, 상담자들이 작업동맹 위기 표지로 인식하는 4개 군집을 발견하였으며 각각의 군집을 ‘내담자의 도전적인 불만족 표현’, ‘상담관계 경계의 혼란’, ‘내담자의 낮은 관여 행동’, ‘상담자의 부정적 반응’으로 명명하였다.
    또한 작업동맹 위기 표지의 하위 요소들을 추출하고 다차원척도 분석 결과 산출된 좌표값을 이용한 군집분석이 실제 상담자들의 유사성 인식을 잘 반영하는지 확인하기 위해 유사성 분류 원자료에 대한 군집분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 5개의 군집과 각 군집 내 소군집 10개가 확인되었다. 좌표값을 사용한 군집분석과 비교하였을 때, ‘상담자의 부정적인 반응’ 군집이 2개로 분리된 것을 제외하고 군집의 구성과 내용이 거의 일치하였다. 각 군집의 내용을 살펴보면, ‘상담자의 관여 저하와 위축’이 새로운 군집으로 구별되었고 그 아래 ‘상담자의 낮은 관여’와 ‘상담자의 자신감 저하와 위축’ 소군집이 포함되었다. ‘상담자의 부정적 반응’ 군집은 소군집 ‘상담자의 공격적 개입’과 ‘상담자의 부정적 내적 반응’으로 구성되어 있었으며, ‘상담관계 경계의 혼란’ 군집은 동일 명칭의 단일 소군집으로 구성되었다. ‘내담자의 낮은 관여 행동’ 군집에는 소군집 ‘내담자의 불참과 약속 불이행’, ‘내담자의 회기 중 철수행동’이 포함되었고, ‘내담자의 도전적 불만족 표현’ 군집에는 소군집 ‘성과에 대한 내담자의 불만표현’, ‘내담자의 냉소적, 거부적인 태도’, ‘개입에 대한 내담자의 도전적 거부’가 포함되었다.
    마지막 단계에서, 작업동맹 위기 표지에 대한 상담자들의 중요도 인식을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 74개의 작업동맹 위기 표지들의 중요도는 7점 척도에서 모두 평균 4.46 이상으로, 추출된 진술문들이 작업동맹 위기 표지로서 중요하게 인식 되었다. 또한 5개 군집에 대한 상대적 중요도비교 결과, 상담자들은 ‘상담자의 부정적 반응’, 그리고 ‘상담자의 관여저하 및 위축’ 등 상담자 요인을 내담자 요인에 비해 상대적으로 중요하게 인식하는 것으로 나타났다.
    본 연구는 상담자가 인식하는 작업동맹의 위기를 표지 형태의 목록으로 제공하고, 작업동맹 위기 표지 인식의 차원 및 구성 요소에 대한 정보를 제공하였다는데 의의가 있다. 이러한 정보는 상담자가 작업동맹에서 위기해결을 위한 개입을 언제 시작해야 하는지 알려주는 신호가 될 것이며, 또한 상담자 발달을 위한 훈련의 맥락에서 본다면, 상담자가 상담관계의 상태를 알아차리고 다룰 수 있는 능력을 증진시킬 수 있는 도구로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

    또한 작업동맹 위기 표지의 하위 요소들을 추출하고 다차원척도 분석 결과 산출된 좌표값을 이용한 군집분석이 실제 상담자들의 유사성 인식을 잘 반영하는지 확인하기 위해 유사성 분류 원자료에 대한 군집분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 5개의 군집과 각 군집 내 소군집 10개가 확인되었다. 좌표값을 사용한 군집분석과 비교하였을 때, ‘상담자의 부정적인 반응’ 군집이 2개로 분리된 것을 제외하고 군집의 구성과 내용이 거의 일치하였다. 각 군집의 내용을 살펴보면, ‘상담자의 관여 저하와 위축’이 새로운 군집으로 구별되었고 그 아래 ‘상담자의 낮은 관여’와 ‘상담자의 자신감 저하와 위축’ 소군집이 포함되었다. ‘상담자의 부정적 반응’ 군집은 소군집 ‘상담자의 공격적 개입’과 ‘상담자의 부정적 내적 반응’으로 구성되어 있었으며, ‘상담관계 경계의 혼란’ 군집은 동일 명칭의 단일 소군집으로 구성되었다. ‘내담자의 낮은 관여 행동’ 군집에는 소군집 ‘내담자의 불참과 약속 불이행’, ‘내담자의 회기 중 철수행동’이 포함되었고, ‘내담자의 도전적 불만족 표현’ 군집에는 소군집 ‘성과에 대한 내담자의 불만표현’, ‘내담자의 냉소적, 거부적인 태도’, ‘개입에 대한 내담자의 도전적 거부’가 포함되었다.
    마지막 단계에서, 작업동맹 위기 표지에 대한 상담자들의 중요도 인식을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 74개의 작업동맹 위기 표지들의 중요도는 7점 척도에서 모두 평균 4.46 이상으로, 추출된 진술문들이 작업동맹 위기 표지로서 중요하게 인식 되었다. 또한 5개 군집에 대한 상대적 중요도비교 결과, 상담자들은 ‘상담자의 부정적 반응’, 그리고 ‘상담자의 관여저하 및 위축’ 등 상담자 요인을 내담자 요인에 비해 상대적으로 중요하게 인식하는 것으로 나타났다.
    본 연구는 상담자가 인식하는 작업동맹의 위기를 표지 형태의 목록으로 제공하고, 작업동맹 위기 표지 인식의 차원 및 구성 요소에 대한 정보를 제공하였다는데 의의가 있다. 이러한 정보는 상담자가 작업동맹에서 위기해결을 위한 개입을 언제 시작해야 하는지 알려주는 신호가 될 것이며, 또한 상담자 발달을 위한 훈련의 맥락에서 본다면, 상담자가 상담관계의 상태를 알아차리고 다룰 수 있는 능력을 증진시킬 수 있는 도구로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.
