The purpose of this study is to analyze the status of mental health of teachers and to provide data and information from this analysis to the administrators and principals of schools for their effective teachers administration. Also, it further intends to collect and present data and information necessary for the human resource administration in the education field.
In order to achieve these goals, detailed research procedures are planned as the following:
Firstly, status of the mental health of teachers will be measured based on the "conditions of the sound mental health" (self-respect, respect of others, understanding one's limit, understanding of the limit of others, understanding of the causes of action and understanding of desire of self realization); Secondly, distribution of aspect of teachers and its status that are based on the "causes of the unstable mental health" (conflict, stress, uneasiness, fear, insecurity, inferiority complex, schizophrenia and hypochondria) will be analyzed; and, finally, dependency and its status on the "Causes of Impediment of Mental Health" (alcohol, smoking and drugs) will be measured.
The collected data are put into computer through the statistical process method based on the Statistics Analysis System (SAS), average and standard deviation are calculated by adding points of all problems of the analyzed data and verification is carried out through F test in order to analyze the differences. The degree of significance is also verified under the conditions of 0.1%(p.<0.001), 1%(p<0.01) and 5%(p.<0.05).
1. Analysis According to the Conditions of Sound Mental Health
Firstly, the reaction points are distributed between 2.000∼4.000 points disregarding the conditions, and this indicates the above average mental health condition is maintained. In particular, high responses are shown with respect to "respect of others" and "self-respect," and these show high self-consciousness of teachers and coexisting and sound organization atmosphere among the members.
Secondly, comparing to the sex of the teachers, female teachers showed more positive reactions than the male teachers in the "understanding of one's limit" with the level p < 0.001 and in the "understanding of the causes" and "understanding of desire of self-achievement" with the level p < 0.05.
Thirdly, according to the comparative analysis based on the position, most of the common teachers reacted positively in the "understanding of one's limit" with the level p < 0.001, whereas manager teachers reacted positively in the "understanding of others' limit" with the level (p < 0.01) and in the "self-respect" with the level (p<0.05).
Fourthly, according to the comparison among the schools, elementary school teachers showed highest pride among teachers of other schools in the "self-respect" with the level (p < 0.05).
finally, according to the analysis based on the number of years of experiences, most teachers showed normal significance in the "understanding of desire of self achievement" wit the level of p < 0.01. The less experienced teachers have more willingness for the self achievement as: less then 10 years> less than 11∼20 years> more than 21 years.
2. Distribution and Status of Unsound Mental Health
Firstly, disregarding the conditions, the result was between 0.000∼2.000 points, indicating that the overall mental health of teachers is relatively above the average.
Secondly, if the unsound mental health the teachers feel is compared to the average points, the orders are as: stress > obsession > inferiority > hypochondria > uneasiness > hostility > mental problem > fear.
Thirdly, in comparison according to the schools, middle school teachers showed higher reactions compared to the teachers of other schools although the difference is not considerable.
Finally, in comparison according to the number of years of experience with the use of average points, those with more experienced showed higher reaction except in the category of conflict (hostility) although the difference is not considerable. This tells that the more experienced teachers have more accumulated unsound health elements. According to the statistics, "sensitivity on the inferiority" is checked with the level of p < 0.05 and "hypochondria" is checked with the level of p < 0.01. And, this tells that the more experienced teachers showed higher sense of inferiority and hypochondria.
3. Dependency on the Causes of the Aggravation of Mental Health
Firstly, teachers' dependency on the alcohol or smoking is relatively lower than those of others in other jobs, and dependency on the smoking is a problem restricted to the male teachers.
Finally, according to the research on the abuse of drugs, teachers are completely free from this, but education to prevent any future possibilities of abuse is necessary.
