This study investigated the effects of out-of-school adolescent self-resilience and social capital on suicide ideation. To date, out-of school adolescent have been increased every year and this phenomenon has a lot of potential to develop into personal and social problems. In response, many policies have been made, targeting the increasing out-of-school adolescent and about 200 out-of-school support centers have been installed in the country and provided services for out-of-school adolescent. We investigated "if there is any difference between the corresponding out-of-school adolescent self-resilience and social capital and adolescent suicide ideation" and "if they affect the adolescent suicide ideation".
As a result, first, according to the survey contents on the general characteristics, it was shown that female adolescent think about suicide more than male adolescent in terms of the difference about suicide ideation. Second, in terms of the correlation between self-resilience and social capital, and out-of-school adolescent suicide ideation, gender, vitality, optimism, and social capital showed the significant correlation. Third, in terms of the control variables and suicide ideation, the gender factor had a negative effect. In the hierarchical regression analysis, vitality and optimism showed negative effects, while curiosity showed a positive effect. According to the results above, there are differences between and effects of out-of-school adolescent self-resilience and social capital on suicide ideation. Therefore, when developing suicide prevention programs in accordance with the results of the differences between female and male adolescent, the development of gender perspective program is required. In addition, the development of various activity programs such as sports activities and field works, both of which can increase the sense of accomplishment, is required to increase the vitality and optimism. Moreover, taking into account the result that curiosity affects suicide ideation, it is considered that supervising to control the curiosity in accordance with impulsive behavior and a proper guidance are necessary. Accordingly, proper control of the safety rules and dangerous behaviors is needed. Furthermore, the activities of the participation committee that encourage the participation of adolescent should be supported and helped to maintain in order to increase the social capital. Therefore, the political support for all the activities stated above and substantial support for operation with internal stability of the currently established out-of-school support centers should be carried out.
This study will provide not only an opportunity to change the perspective on out-of-school adolescent as having some trouble but also perspective on both individual and social problems. Accordingly, we hope that political support, the development of effective programs, and potential for support for out-of-school adolescent who lack interests and are in trouble are available through the results of the present study.
