국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 한국(6·25)전쟁 중에 설립된 전남대학교 입지의 풍수적 특징을 분석하고, 입지선정과 공간구성에서 나타나는 풍수적 사상을 분석하였다. 전남대학교의 태조산은 천·지·인의 화성체 봉우리로 이루어진 무등산이다. 용(龍)·사(砂)·수(水)는 모두 삼길성을 선택하고 있다. 이기론적 좌향은 축좌미향(丑坐未向)으로 88향법에 부합하고, 형세론적 좌향은 주·안산중시법을 사용하여 혈처에 구본관을 배치하였다. 전남대학교의 입지선정은 호남향교의 영향으로 동양학적·풍수학적 사상을 적극적으로 수용하고 있다. 공간구성은 향교가 추구하는 공간구성과 동일하다. 결과적으로 설립 주체인 국가는 그 누구보다 풍수적 사상을적극적으로 활용하여 대학교의 입지를 선정하였다는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 풍수학은 학문탐구의 전당인 대학교의 입지선정에 있어서 중요한 기준으로 활용되고 있다.

This study analyzes the Feng Shui characteristics for site selection of Chonnam National University, established during the Korean(6·25) War, and it analyzes Feng Shui ideologies that appear in the site selection and spatial composition. Taejosan of Chonnam National University is Mudeungsan Mountain, which consists of Hwaseongchae peaks with the Ideas of Sky, Earth, and Human. Dragon(龍), Mountains around(砂), and Water(水) all choose Samgilsung, which means three suspicious starts. The direction based on Liqi Theory is to Chukjuoamihyang (丑坐未向), and it aligns with the 88 Orientation Method. The direction based on Hyeongseiron, which means Configuration Theory, selects Ju-Ansan-Centered Method, and the Old Main Building is placed at Hyulcheo, which is an auspicious spot depending on Feng Shui. The site selection of Chonnam National University actively embraces Oriental Studies and Feng Shui philosophies, influenced by Honam Hyanggyo. The spatial composition is the same as what Hyanggyo seeks. Consequently, this study verifies that the nation, which is the main establishment body of the university, actively used Feng Shui ideologies for site selection of it. Therefore, Feng Shui is being utilized as an essential criterion in site selections for universities that are halls of academic inquiry.
