The purpose of this study is 1) to investicate that among family relationship, friendship, and school adjustment that are related to PWB(psychological well-being), which factor would be more important to PWB and 2) to identify the difference of PWB between high school students and college students.
The participants of this study were 399 students, including 198 high school students and 201 college students in Busan. Analysis of variance, multivariate analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis were performed to resolve the research questions.
The results of this study are as follows:
First, PWB was not affected by gender. However, the differences by age and school(high school and college) were found in three subscales of PWB: environmental mastery, self-acceptance and purpose in life.
Second, the result of standard regression analysis showed that friendship was the most important variable for the PWB of high school students, and school adjustment for the PWB of college students.
Third, the result of stepwise regression analysis showed that the variables of recognition and cares, class adjustment, and family adaptability influenced a lot on the PWB of high school students, and the variables of recognition and cares, class adjustment, conflict and distrust, and family cohesion were important for college students. This means that factors affecting PWB were a little bit different between high school students and college students. These results indicated that it is necessary to consider these differences of PWB when counseling students.
