The Mediating Effects of Ambivalence Over Emotional Expressiveness between Insecure Attachment and Anger-In

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether ambivalence over emotional expressiveness has an effect on the relationship between insecure attachment and anger-in. This research was done by conducting surveys from 370 university students who are attending universities in Gwangju area. The scales used in the study were State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-Korean Version(STAXI-K), Multi-item Measure of Adult Romantic Attachment Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised(ECR-R) and Ambivalence over Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire(AEQ). The hypothesis of the study was verified by correlation analysis and Hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS 24.0. The results were summarized as follows. First of all, a result in the examination of the relationships among insecure attachment, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and anger-in is statistically significant. Second, insecure attachment affects ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, anger-in. Third, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness affects anger repression. Finally, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness was partially mediated between insecure attachment and anger-in. The results of this study suggest that those with high insecure attachment tend to suppress the anger as the ambivalence over emotional expressiveness increases. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed based on the results of the study.
