Franz Peter Schubert is one of the most representative composers of Romantic music, known for his outstanding lyricism and poetic sensibility. His songs and instrumental works are closely related, sharing the characteristic of transforming and expanding the same musical themes in different ways. This study aims to explore the musical connection between the song "Trockne Blumen" from Schubert's song cycle Die schöne Müllerin and the Introduction and Variations for Flute and Piano (D. 802) based on the same theme. By analyzing the similarities and differences in form, harmony, and melody between these two works, this research examines how Schubert expanded the emotional depth of the original song into an instrumental variation. Furthermore, by comparing the role of the piano accompaniment and flute, the study identifies Schubert’s variation techniques and expressive methods for conveying emotions. Additionally, this study categorizes the development of Schubert’s lyrical melodies and musical structures. Through the analysis of the organic integration of poetry and music, melodic progression, harmonic and tonal changes, expressive variation techniques, and structural clarity, this research aims to demonstrate that Schubert's music goes beyond simple melodic transformation to maximize emotional expression. It also explores the interrelationship between instrumental music and art songs in his compositions. This study provides an academic approach to Schubert’s lyricism and variation techniques, offering a deeper understanding of his music while aiding in interpretation and performance. Furthermore, it examines the musical consistency and emotional expression maintained as his art songs transition into instrumental music.
