Due to COVID-19, as contactless society has become common, the transition from offline to online is rapidly taking place. In this process, the need for study on changes in digital technology perception due to COVID-19 among middle-aged and elderly people who are vulnerable to digital information was raised. The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of the digital informatization level in the relationship between the household type of middle-aged and elderly people and the changes in digital technology perception due to COVID-19.
For this purpose, data from the 2020 digital information divide survey by the National Information Society Agency was used to analyze and test 2,300 middle-aged and elderly people 55 years of age and older according to the mediation model test procedure of Baron and Kenny (1986). The study results according to the analysis and test are summarized as follows. First, in this study, there was a significant quantitative
correlation between household type of middle-aged and elderly people and the level of digital informatization. Second, it was found that the household type of middle-aged and elderly people significantly affects
the level of digital informatization and the changes in digital technology perception due to COVID-19. Third, it was found that the level of digital informatization had a complete mediating effect in the relationship between household types of middle-aged and elderly people and changes in digital technology perception due to COVID-19. In other words, it was confirmed that the household type of middle-aged and elderly people affects the changes in digital technology perception due to COVID-19 through the level of digital informatization. Based on the results of this study, in order to improve the changes in digital technology perception caused by COVID-19 among middle-aged and elderly people, a support plan for middle-aged and elderly people by household type was proposed to increase the level of digital informatization.
