그림책 일러스트레이션 소재를 위한 장신구 제작 연구 : 본인의 작품을 중심으로 = The Study on Making Jewelry for Illustration's Material or Picture-Book : Focus on My Works

This research of work attempted a different way of expression for a picture book illustrator, by designing ornaments with picture book illustration materials based on the story written by myself.
In addition to children's picture books, many picture books targeting adults are now being published as well. Unlike the past, picture books do not have separate reader targets, meaning that picture books' influence is tremendous. In order to deepen the readers' understanding and interest, picture books use diverse materials for familiar and new illustrations, and they can be said to be the repository of visual imagination and creativity. I decided to make new attempts in regard to picture book's expression of illustration. This study began in order to allow picture book illustrations to play the role of ornaments in addition to illustrations, and to take the illustration outside of a picture book through a person wearing such ornaments and make them communicate with the world. Therefore, illustrations mentioned in this writing refer to designing characters of protagonists and friends in my story and designing ornaments from them. In regard to materials and color expressions, metals, Ottchill lacquer and cloisonne were used for diverse visual effects and textures. Also, formats and expression methods of the characters were slightly modified to draw the joy of discovering protagonists and friends. Ornaments, which are illustrations of a picture book, were designed to have proper size and light weight by considering stability and practicality when wearing them. Through such results, it was shown that the ornaments designed with metal and Ottchill lacquer can serve as illustration materials. Through this, the potential to expand the range of application with diverse roles of ornaments is suggested, in addition to expanding the functional domain possessed by ornaments. Also, it is expected that designing ornaments for picture book illustration materials can serve as unconventional examples for those designing picture book illustrations, and that such picture books can provide lots of imagination and inspiration to the readers.

본 연구는 본인이 지은 이야기를 바탕으로 그림책의 일러스트레이션 일러스트레이션(illustration) : 어떤 의미나 내용을 시각적으로 전달하기 위하여 사용되는 삽화, 사진, 도안 따위를 통틀어 이르는 말. [비슷한 말]일러스트.
소재를 장신구로 제작함으로써 그림책 일러스트로서의 색다른 표현방식을 시도해보고자 한 것이다.
요즘의 그림책은 어린이들만을 위한 책이 아니라 어른들을 위해서도 많이 출판된다. 예전과는 달리 그림책은 읽는 대상이 따로 정해져 있지 않아 그림책이 주는 영향력은 다소 크다고 할 수 있다. 읽는 이의 이해와 흥미를 돋우기 위한 친숙한 일러스트 및 새로운 시도의 일러스트에 따른 다양한 소재 사용 등 그림책은 시각을 통한 상상력과 창의력의 보고(寶庫)이다. 본인은 이러한 그림책의 일러스트 표현에 새로운 시도를 해보고자 한다. 그림책의 일러스트레이션이 일러스트로서만의 역할뿐만 아니라 장신구로서의 역할도 할 수 있도록 하여, 이를 착용한 사람을 통해 일러스트가 세상 밖과 소통할 수 있도록 해주고자 하는 의도에서 본 연구는 비롯되었다.
본고에서 다뤄진 그림책 일러스트의 소재는 본인이 지은 이야기 속의 주인공과 친구들의 캐릭터를 디자인하여 장신구로 제작한 것들이다. 재료와 색상표현에 있어서는 금속, 옻칠, 칠보를 혼용함으로써 다양한 재질의 시각 효과를 얻고자 하였으며, 같은 소재로서의 캐릭터지만 장면마다 형태와 색상 그리고 표현기법에 변화를 주어 주인공과 친구들이 각 장면의 상황에 따라 변화되어가는 재미를 이끌어내고자 하였다. 그림책의 일러스트이기도 한 작품 장신구는 착용하였을 때의 안정감과 실용성을 고려하여 적당한 크기와 가벼운 무게를 갖도록 제작하는 것이 좋다. 이를 해결하기 위해 여러 재료의 실험과 탐구를 시도하였으며, 이러한 결과, 거즈를 겹겹이 쌓은 후 옻칠을 올리는 건칠기법을 통해 장신구의 무게를 대폭 줄일 수 있는 방안을 찾을 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 금속재와 옻칠로 제작한 장신구가 일러스트의 소재로 활용될 수 있다는 점을 제시함으로써, 장신구가 지닌 기능의 영역 확대뿐만 아니라 장신구의 다양한 역할과 적용범위의 확장 가능성이 매우 높다는 점을 인지하게 되었다. 아울러 본인의 연구 작품이 향후 그림책 일러스트레이션을 제작하는 이들에게 색다른 견본이 되길 바라며, 보는 이들에게 많은 상상력과 영감을 주는 일러스트의 소재가 되기를 기대해본다.
