The subjects of this study were 282 questionnaires, excluding 23 invalid ones, from a survey of childcare teachers working at child care centers in Cheonan, Asan, Jincheon, and Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.
In this study, the scale developed by Domihyang, Han Min-ah, and Ryu Eun-soo(2023) was used to find out about the director's coaching leadership, and the grit scale of the child care teacher developed by Kang Shin-young(2022) was used to measure the grit of the child care teacher. In addition, the scale reconstructed by Lee Jung-mi(2010) and Park Myung-sook(2019) was used to measure the professional recognition of child care teachers based on the 'professional recognition item scale' developed by Lindsay and Lindsay(1987).
Based on the collected data, the data collected for the research subject using the SPSS 26.0 statistical program were analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 statistical program. The frequency and percentage were calculated to examine the general characteristics of the childcare center childcare teachers to be studied, and the internal reliability (Cronbach's α) of the question was calculated to find out the reliability of the measurement tool.
Descriptive statistics were examined to find out the general trend of the childcare center director's coaching competency, nursery teacher's grit, and professionalism perception, and Pearson's moment correlation coefficient was calculated by conducting a correlation analysis to find out the relationship between the director's coaching competency, the nursery teacher's grit, and professionalism perception. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effect of the director's coaching competency and the nursery teacher's grit on the childcare teacher's professionalism perception.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, looking at the relationship between the director's coaching competency and the childcare teacher's professional perception, it was found that there was a significant positive correlation (r=.61, p<.001) overall, and the higher the director's coaching competency, the higher the level of professional perception of childcare teachers.
Second, looking at the relationship between childcare teachers' grit and professional perception, it was found that there was a significant positive correlation (r=.75, p<.001) overall, and the higher the level of professional perception of childcare teachers, the higher the level of professional perception.
Third, a hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effect of the director's coaching competency and the childcare teacher's grit factor on the childcare teacher's professional perception, and it can be interpreted that the regression model was significant and had a positive effect as having explanatory power.
The higher the director's coaching ability, the higher the level of professional awareness of the childcare teacher, and the higher the child care teacher's grit, the higher the level of professional awareness of the child care teacher.
These results suggest that childcare center directors' coaching leadership and teachers' grit play a crucial role in enhancing teachers' professional perception. Thus, it highlights the need for leadership development programs for directors and grit enhancement programs for teachers in childcare centers.
