The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of collage-used drawing activity upon young children's formative expression of painting and attitude toward the learning of painting and the difference of young children's formative expression of painting and attitude toward the learning of painting by their ages, with the study subjects of young children and elementary school low-grade students who were in the initial stage of forming the attitude toward the curriculum of painting. For this, following study questions were established:
First, 'What influence of collage-used drawing activity has upon young children's formative expression of painting?'
Second, 'What influence of collage-used drawing activity has upon young children's attitude toward the learning of painting?'
Third, 'Is there any difference in young children's formative expression of painting by their ages?
Fourth, 'Is there any difference in young children's attitude toward the learning of painting by their ages?
In order to find out the answer to the above questions, 60 children of 5~7 years of age were distributed a collage-used drawing activity group (an experiment group) and an ordinary drawing group (a control group) and then their formative expression of painting and attitude toward the learning of painting were examined. Experiment was carried out in 24 sessions for 6 weeks. Collected data were statistically processed with the SPSSWIN 18.0 program. In order to analyze the difference of pre- and post-test between the experiment group and the control group, the independent sample t-test was carried out. In addition, in order to compare the difference of increase in pre-test and post-test between the two groups, the dependent sample t-test was carried out.
In relation to study questions, study findings can be summarized as follows:
First, as for the influence of collage-used drawing activity upon young children's formative expression of painting, the results of post-examination of the experiment group and the control group presented that the experiment group's formative expression of painting was significantly higher than that of the control group. In such sub-areas of the formative expression of painting as representation level, exploration level and artistry level, the experiment group was significantly higher than the control group.
Second, as for the influence of collage-used drawing activity upon young children's attitude toward the learning of painting, the results of post-examination of the experiment group and the control group presented that the experiment group's attitude toward the learning of painting was significantly higher than that of the control group. In such sub-areas of the attitude toward the learning of painting as interested attitude, preparatory attitude, creative attitude and cooperative attitude, the experiment group was significantly higher than the control group as well.
Third, as for the difference in young children's formative expression of painting by their ages, the results of pre-examination of the difference in young children's formative expression of painting by their ages presented that there was no significant difference in such sub-areas of the age-oriented formative expression of painting as representation level, exploration level and artistry level. The results of post-examination by every factor presented that 7-year old children were highest in such sub-areas of the formative expression of painting as representation level, exploration level and artistry level, whereas 5-year old children were lowest in these sub-areas.
Forth, as for the difference in young children's attitude toward the learning of painting, the results of pre- and post-examination of the difference in young children's age-oriented attitude toward the learning of painting presented that there was no statistically significant difference in such sub-areas of the age-oriented attitude toward the learning of painting as interested attitude, preparatory attitude, creative attitude and cooperative attitude.
Based on the above study findings, this study can be concluded as follows:
First, the collage-used drawing activity is effective in the improvement of young children's formative expression of painting.
Second, the collage-used drawing activity is effective in the improvement of young children's attitude toward the learning of painting.
Third, in the collage-used drawing activity, the age-oriented difference of young children's formative expression of painting increases with the increase of subjects' age.
Fourth, in the collage-used drawing activity, the age-oriented difference of young children's attitude toward the learning of painting is not significant.
