자연과학 및 엔지니어링의 많은 모델링 문제들은 크기가 수십만 또는 수백만에까지 이르는 선형 시스템으로 변환한다. 그런 문제의 초병렬 컴퓨터의 등장으로 적절한 시간내에 계산하는 것이 가능해졌는데, 현재 가장 많이 사용되는 병렬 프로그래밍 모델은 message passing이다. 본 논문에서는 Park(1995)에서 제안된 domain decomposition 알고리즘을 소개하고, 그 것의 단점을 수정한 새로운 알고리즘을 제시한다. 또한 이를 message passing 환경에서 구현하기 위해 필요한 그리드 포인트(grid point)의 오더링(ordering)과 프로세서 할당 전략을 고찰하고 그 알고리즘이 수렴함을 보인다.

Molecular weights and molecular charges of soybean 11S protein rich fraction (PRF) were analyzed by Fergerson plot during the chungkuk-jang fermentation. After 24 hours of the fermentation, the typical acidic and basic subunits of soybean proteins were reduced to the components with low molecular weights and molecular charges. At 48 hours of the fermentation, various fragments of soybean proteins with different molecular sizes and charges were detected in Triton X-100 solution. Soluble amino groups of fermented 11S PRF were high after 24 and 48 hours of the fermentation in various pH including the isoelectric point of soybean proteins.

Arabidopsis Genome Database 검색을 통한 추정 G-protein γsubunit 유전자의 동정

Heterotrimeric G-proteins relay signals from various seven trans-membrane domain receptors to intracellular effectors. Genes for G-protein α subunit and β subunit have been cloned in Arabidopsis, but a gene for G-protein γ has not been cloned yet. All the G-protein γ subunits so far cloned have a notable homologous region which is the CAAX sequence found at the carboxyl terminus of the known γ subunits, where A is an aliphatic amino acid and X is any amino acid. Arabidopsis Genome Database searches were performed and we found 10 non-redundant proteins which have CAAX sepuence at the carboxyl terminus. Among 10 proteins, one is very promising in terms of molecular weight, secondary structure prediction, and it has a prenyl group-binding site.

소형기기 장착용 임베디드 데이터베이스 엔진 설계 및 구현에 관한 연구

Recently, the number of applications, which may be applied to wired/wireless internet environments, has rapidly increased due to wide-spread of broadband communication networks. Especially, the small-scaled embedded systems, such as PDA and mobile devices, have become increasingly popular. However, the operating system and database for such system should be modified to be operated properly and efficiently, since the target hardware platform is restricted in space and the software to be downsized. Therefore, it became necessary to develop a database engine to meet such requirements based on flash memory in order to manage the data. In this study, we design and implement a flash memory based database engine for small-scaled embedded devices, in which ARM7 Core CPU and an modified uClinux without memory management unit are installed.

Streptomyces fradiae에서 생산되는 항생제(tylosin)에 대한 자가 방어작용으로 생성되는 항생제 내성인자인 ErmSF를 대장균에서 과잉생산을 시도하였다. 이 들은 대장균에서 대량으로 과잉생산 되었으나 대부분 inclusion body를 생성하였다. 이 inclusion body를 6M guanidine-HCI에 의해 용해시킨 후 점차적으로 guanidine-HCI을 제거하여 활성화된 단백질을 대량으로 얻을 수 있었다. 재활성 과정은 점차적으로 guanidine-HCI을 제거하는 방법과 한 번에 단백질용액을 희석시키는 방법을 사용하였고 이 두 방법에 의해 얻어진 재활성화된 단백질은 모두 in vitro methylation system에서 대장균의 23S rRNA를 성공적으로 methylation시키는 것으로 관찰되었다.

Studies on the Polymerase Activities of the Hepatitis B Virus

Hepadnavirus polymerases initiate reverse transcription in a protein primed reaction that involves the covalent linkage of the first deoxyribonucleotide to the polymerse polypeptide. Analysis of the initial steps in this reaction as well as certain details of genome replication has been hampered by the difficultes encountered in the expression of functional hepadnavirus polymerase in the heterologous system. We have expressed human hepatits B virus (HBV) polymerase (pol) in insect cells, using the recombinant baculovirus system. The purified pol was also active in the in vitro polymerase assay. Incubation of pol with labeled deoxyribonucleotide triphosphates resulted in the labeling of pol polypeptide in a reaction of the in vitro nucleotide priming. In vitro nucleotide priming was confirmed by the appearance of P-labeled deoxyribonucleotide triphosphates. The ability to purify significant quantites of HBV pol will be facilitated with the functional and physical analysis of this enzyme as well as search for novel inhibitors of HBV replication. Some herbal extracts as well as nuclerside analog, lamivudine, were tested for the inhibitory activities in the priming reaction of pol protein. In addition we previously described a transcomplimentation assay for analysis of the roles of the TP and RT domains of HBV reverse transcriptase in the priming reaction. Independently expressed TP and RT domains form a functional complex for the in vitro priming reaction wheras TP protein expressed in E. coli was not functional in the protein-primed reaction with RT protein expressed in the baculovirus/Sf9 expression system. These studies suggest that the complex cellular factors will be further identified by the transcomplementation assay for the nucleotide priming reaction.

Kinetic energy release distributions in the metastable ion decomposition and photodissociation of para-bromotoluene molecular ion have been investigated. Mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy spectrometry has been used. The production of C7H7+ has been found to be dominant. the structure of the product ions is discussed from the measured kinetic energy release distributions.
