Background Intellectual disability (ID) is a neurodevelopmental condition, affecting 1–3% of the population. Genetic factors play a key role causing the limitation in intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior. The heterogeneity of ID makes it more difficult for genetic and clinical diagnosis. Mapping of variants through next generation DNA sequencing in consanguineous families would help to understand the molecular parthenogenesis of ID. Objective The aim of this study was to describe the genetic variants of ID in consanguineous Pakistani families. Methods We analyzed four unrelated consanguineous Pakistani families having an intellectual disability through whole exome sequencing (WES). Data was analyzed using different bioinformatics tools and software. Results We mapped four novel variants in different ID genes. Each variant is found in different family, co-segregating with a recessive pattern of inheritance. The variants found are; c.1437delG:p.Asn480Thrfs*10, mapped in FKRP, c.2041 C>A:p.Leu681Met in HIRA, c.382 C>T:p.Arg128Cys in BDH1 and c.267+1G>A:p.? identified in TRAPPC6B. Conclusions These variants help in demonstration of status and molecular basis of intellectual disability in Pakistani population leading to provision of genetic counseling services and a contribution in disease variant database.

The absorption-stabilization process (ASP), an important part of petroleum refinery used in the end-use products of petroleum (such as stable gasoline, liquid petroleum gas, and dry gas), is energy-intensive and has low product quality. Aspen Plus process simulator was used for the development of the ASP process model. The developed process model was validated with the actual plant data. The validated model was used to optimize to minimize the cost of the ASP. This work shows that the optimization analysis of the ASP can further improve the product quality and reduce thermal energy consumption. In the new process, changing feeding parameters of supplementary absorption oil, stripping tower intermediate reboiler, and feeding position of stabilization tower reduced the C3 contents of dry gas considerably and lowered the C2 and lighter contents of LPG. Additionally, the new process saved 1.32 MW of thermal energy consumption compared with the existing process. The operating cost has been reduced from 10.921 million USD annually to 9.830 million USD per year. Furthermore, the cost-saving effect of this optimization is about 9.99% (1.091 million USD per year).
Protection Coordination Using Superconducting Fault Current Limiters in Microgrids
Raza Haider,Muhammad Saeed Uz Zaman,Syed Basit Ali Bukhari,Zahoor Ahmed,Muhammad Mehdi,Yun-Sik Oh,Chul-Hwan Kim 한국조명·전기설비학회 2017 조명·전기설비학회논문지 Vol.31 No.10
Power generating units in the form of distributed generation (DG) are integrating with microgrid (MG) systems to supply reliable power to users. The trend of an integrated power supply is increasing continually to meet growing energy demands. Besides certain advantages of the MG system, some interconnection and system protection issues pose a challenge in terms of implementation. These problems need to be addressed in order to facilitate smooth operation of power systems. Superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) provide the best performance and unique protection features to electrical power systems during various fault conditions. This paper describes modeling, characterization, and implementation of SFCL in an MG system to enhance protection coordination. The proposed SFCL is modeled in MATLAB/ Simulink software and the performance of the system is validated through simulation results. It is also shown that the proposed SFCL provides a means of better relay coordination during various fault conditions. This is achieved by incorporating well-calculated design parameters of SFCL and its placement at optimal locations.
Reliable and Advanced Predictors for Corporate Financial Choices in Pakistan
SHAHZAD, Umeair,FUKAI, Luo,MAHMOOD, Faisal,JING, Liu,AHMED, Zahoor Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.7
Existing studies disagree over the core predictors of firm-level financial choices in developing countries. The general practice only validates the traditional capital structure model, which leads to inconsistency and a lack of novelty. This study removed overfitting issues among existing factors and presented the most reliable and advanced capital structure model in Pakistani firms. The panel data include 368 Pakistani companies from 19 non-financial sectors over the period 2004 to 2017. We apply Akaike and Bayesian Information Criteria to remove overfitting issues among inconsistent proxies in the capital structure model. The fixed effects regression is used for basic results and the Generalized Method of Moments is applied to control the endogeneity. Besides the conventional proxies, we report that credit rating, distance from bankruptcy, managerial concentration, and institutional quality are the most advanced capital structure determinants in Pakistan. These predictors remain significant across firm size and growth levels. Also, the findings confirm that new predictors are reliable to define capital structure dynamics and improve the speed of adjustment in overall and sub-sample analysis. The major findings suggest that managers and policymakers should consider these advanced predictors to design their financial settings in firms.
