Diethanolamine (DEA)-promoted potassium carbonate process for CO2 removal is modelled using ratebasedapproach and Electrolyte NRTLmodel. Acceptable agreements between the simulation results andthe experimental data are achieved. The effectiveness of monoethanolamine (MEA), diglycolamine(DGA), diisopropanolamine (DIPA), and methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) as promoters are investigated. MEA shows promising performance for CO2 removal. The CO2 absorptions by DGA and DIPA are goodenough, but their prices are higher than MEA and DEA. The CO2 absorption byMDEA is not significant andit cannot be used as a promoter. A parametric study is performed to assess the effects of importantprocess parameters.
Taguchi optimization of micron sized lubricant oil droplet deposition on a hot plate

The deposition of micron sized lubricant oil droplets similar to oil droplets in blow-by gases of Internal combustion (IC) engines on ahot flat plate was studied using a round impinging jet configuration. Five parameters which simulate the different operational conditionsin IC engines were chosen: The impaction nozzle’s outlet diameter, additional air flow rate, plate angle, plate temperature, and nozzle tothe plate distance. An Experimental test-rig was constructed to acquire deposit weight with different parameter values. To find the conditionsof minimum deposition, the deposit’s weight was optimized using the Taguchi design of experiment method with respect to thedesign parameters. Using the experimental data, the predicted optimal value of the deposit weight was confirmed. Analysis of varianceshowed that plate angle is the most influential factor in deposition of fine oil droplets. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used toinvestigate the mechanism of deposition.
Modeling study on CO2 and H2S simultaneous removal using MDEA solution

This study presents a rate-based model of an absorber packed column for simultaneous absorptions ofacid gases into methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) aqueous solution. The model is in good agreement withexperimental data. The parametric study showed that the concentration of acid gases in the sweet gasstream increases by decrease in the specific surface area of packing. The peak of selectivity factordecreases with the increase in the mole ratio of CO2/H2S in the gas feed along the packed column. Thesensitivity analysis reveals that selecting the accurate correlations of the gas-side mass transfercoefficient and specific surface area is vital.
