No Association between the CDX2 G543C Polymorphism and Risk of Gastric Atrophy and Cancer
Goto, Yasuyuki,Kato, Tsuyoshi,Ando, Takafumi,Goto, Hidemi,Hamajima, Nobuyuki Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.11
Ectopic expression of CDX2 in the stomach is closely associated with chronic Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and intestinal metaplasia. Whether CDX2 has tumor suppression or tumorigenesis potential remains to be elucidated. In this study, we investigated the association between the CDX2 G543C polymorphism (silent mutation) and the risk for H. pylori-induced gastric atrophy and cancer as well as H. pylori infection, using 454 Japanese subjects undergoing a health checkup and 202 gastric cancer patients. The frequency of the minor allele was the same as previously reported in China, but different from that reported in England. CDX2 G543C was not associated with risk of H. pylori infection, gastric atrophy, or gastric cancer, although the point estimate for non-cardiac differentiated gastric cancer as compared to controls with gastric atrophy was 2.22 (95%CI=0.17-29.4). In conclusion, our results indicate that the CDX2 G543C polymorphism is unlikely to affect the H. pylori infection-gastric atrophy-gastric cancer sequence.

Recent studies have developed simple techniques for monitoring and assessing sleep. However, several issues remain to besolved for example high-cost sensor and algorithm as a home-use device. In this study, we aimed to develop an inexpensiveand simple sleep monitoring system using a camera and video processing. Polysomnography (PSG) recordings were performedin six subjects for four consecutive nights. Subjects’ body movements were simultaneously recorded by the web camera. Body movement was extracted by video processing from the video data and fi ve parameters were calculated for machinelearning. Four sleep stages (WAKE, LIGHT, DEEP and REM) were estimated by applying these fi ve parameters to a supportvector machine. The overall estimation accuracy was 70.3 ± 11.3% with the highest accuracy for DEEP (82.8 ± 4.7%) andthe lowest for LIGHT (53.0 ± 4.0%) compared with correct sleep stages manually scored on PSG data by a sleep technician. Estimation accuracy for REM sleep was 68.0 ± 6.8%. The kappa was 0.19 ± 0.04 for all subjects. The present non-contactsleep monitoring system showed suffi cient accuracy in sleep stage estimation with REM sleep detection being accomplished. Low-cost computing power of this system can be advantageous for mobile application and modularization into home-device.

Far-infrared observations provide crucial data for the investigation and characterisation of the properties of dusty material in the Interstellar Medium (ISM), since most of its energy is emitted between ~ 100 and $200{\mu}m$. We present the first all-sky image from a sensitive all-sky survey using the Japanese AKARI satellite, in the wavelength range $50-180{\mu}m$. Covering > 99% of the sky in four photometric bands with four filters centred at $65{\mu}m$, $90{\mu}m$, $140{\mu}m$, and $160{\mu}m$ wavelengths, this achieved spatial resolutions from 1 to 2 arcmin and a detection limit of < 10 MJy $sr^{-1}$, with absolute and relative photometric accuracies of < 20%. All-sky images of the Galactic dust continuum emission enable astronomers to map the large-scale distribution of the diffuse ISM cirrus, to study its thermal dust temperature, emissivity and column density, and to measure the interaction of the Galactic radiation field and embedded objects with the surrounding ISM. In addition to the point source population of stars, protostars, star-forming regions, and galaxies, the high Galactic latitude sky is shown to be covered with a diffuse filamentary-web of dusty emission that traces the potential sites of high latitude star formation. We show that the temperature of dust particles in thermal equilibrium with the ambient interstellar radiation field can be estimated by using $90{\mu}m$, $140{\mu}m$, and $160{\mu}m$ data. The FIR AKARI full-sky maps provide a rich new data set within which astronomers can investigate the distribution of interstellar matter throughout our Galaxy, and beyond.

Based on the flow patterns of cylindrical vessel, the flow patterns of conical vessel, spherical vessel, rectangular vessel and cylindrical vessel with baffles were visualized by a trace method using aluminum powder. In addition, the correlations of the critical circulating frequency for mixing were derived from the experimental results. The conical and spherical vessels which have circular cross sections were same effective as cylindrical vessel for the shake mixing due to developing the rotational flow. Both a rectangular vessel and a cylindrical vessel with baffles should not be adapted for shake mixing because of not developing rotational flows in these type of vessels.

Following the first Public Release of the AKARI Point Source catalogues, we have worked on the production of a new far-infrared All-Sky Diffuse mapping product. In this paper we report first results from the All Sky diffuse maps that will shortly be released to the community, based on analysis of data from the Far Infrared Surveyor ($65{\mu}m-160{\mu}m$) instrument. These data are likely to have a strong impact on studies of extended structures, and the diffuse ISM.
