A hemangioma in the masseter muscle: a case report
Park, Daehwan,Park, Sulki,Baik, Bongsoo,Kim, Sunyoung Korean Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association 2021 Archives of Craniofacial Surgery Vol.22 No.4
Intramuscular hemangiomas of the masseter muscle are uncommon tumors and therefore can be difficult to accurately diagnose preoperatively, due to the unfamiliar presentation and deep location in the lateral face. A case of intramuscular hemangioma of the masseter muscle in a 66-year-old woman is presented. Doppler ultrasonography showed a 34×15 mm hypoechoic and hypervascular soft tissue mass in the left masseter muscle, suggesting hemangioma. The mass was excised via a lateral cervical incision near the posterior border of the mandibular ramus. The surgical wound healed well without complications.

A numerical analysis of the effect of plasma on flow characteristics in supersonic flow is studied. It is shown that change of direction and velocity magnitude of flow is appeared different in relative direction of plasma and fluid flow. The case of that direction of electrons, which are same with flow direction, the flow is accelerated, and the case of opposition, the flow is decelerated.

<P>The CO2-, CH4-, and CO2/CH4-loaded β-form hydroquinone (HQ) clathrates were synthesized by the gas-phase reaction between α-form HQ and high pressure gases. Temperature-dependent Raman spectra of guest-free, CO2-loaded, CH4-loaded, and CO2/CH4-loaded β-form HQ clathrates were measured in the temperature range 300–385 K at increments of 5 K. The CH4 molecules rapidly escaped from the β-form HQ clathrate in the temperature range 360–380 K, whereas the CO2 molecules were gradually released from the β-form HQ clathrate framework in the wide temperature range 300–380 K. It was also found that both CO2 and CH4 molecules were rapidly released from the CO2/CH4-loaded β-form HQ clathrate framework in the temperature range 360–380 K. However, all of the guest-free and guest-loaded β-form HQ clathrates were fully converted to the α-form HQ at the same temperature of 385 K. These results demonstrate the strong effect of temperature on both guest–host interactions and the stability of the framework structure.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jpccck/2013/jpccck.2013.117.issue-15/jp3128548/production/images/medium/jp-2012-128548_0007.gif'></P>
A case of Advanced Gastric cancer patient treated by Korean Medicine monotherapy
Kim, Sulki,Son, Changgue,Choi, Inwoo,Park, Sojung The Society of Korean Medicine 2019 대한한의학회지 Vol.40 No.4
Objectives: The present study reports case of an advanced gastric cancer patient who did not receive resection and was treated with Korean Medicine (KM) monotherapy. Methods: A 59-year-old female patient diagnosed with advanced gastric cancer visited the Dunsan Korean medicine Hospital of Daejeon University on April 15, 2018 for the Korean medicine treatment. The patient was treated with KM for approximately 1 year, from May, 2018 to May, 2019. Computed tomography (CT) was used to follow-up of the tumor site. Laboratory analysis and National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Event (NCI-CTCAE), version 5.0 were used to evaluate the safety of our treatment. Results: The patient's quality of life (QOL) and related symptoms improved during the treatment. Conclusion: This study suggests that KM may help to improve QOL of advanced gastric cancer patients. This is a valuable report that shows the natural history of Korean gastric cancer invasion to deeper layers over time.
Effects of Prostaglandin E1 and Supplemental Oxygen on the Wound Healing
Baik Bongsoo,Park Sulki,Ji Soyoung,Yang Wansuk,Lee Junekey 대한창상학회 2021 Journal of Wound Management and Research Vol.17 No.2
Background: When an avulsion wound is combined with a crushing injury or when a local flap is moved with significant tension, poor local blood supply may result in partial or complete necrosis of the involved tissue. This paper explores procedures to prevent tissue necrosis for the ischemic wounds. Methods: From March 2017 to December 2018, 29 hospitalized patients (group A) were treated with simple dressing change and administration of antibiotics. From January 2019 to October 2020, 29 hospitalized patients (group B) were injected for the first 3 days intravenously once a day with 50 μg of stabilized prostaglandin E1. Prostaglandin E1 injections were combined with supplemental oxygen (4 L/min through nasal cannula for 24 hours per day for the first 3 days). Wound dressing and antibiotics administration were also combined. Results: Ten patients in group A developed partial wound necrosis, out of which four patients received local flap surgery after excision of the necrotic tissue. The average recovery time was 9.7 days. In group B, four patients developed partial wound necrosis, out of which one was treated with local flap surgery. The average recovery for the four patients in group B took 6.2 days. Conclusion: Prostaglandin E1 and supplemental oxygen reduced the incidence of partial wound necrosis of ischemic wounds and local flap surgery after excision of the necrotic tissue, and also shortened the average recovery time.
Giant basal cell carcinoma of the left lateral neck
Baik, Bongsoo,Park, Sulki,Ji, Soyoung,Kim, Sunyoung Korean Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association 2021 Archives of Craniofacial Surgery Vol.22 No.3
Basal cell carcinoma is a malignant epithelial neoplasm of the skin and the most common human skin cancer. It is generally associated with a good prognosis. In this case report, a giant basal cell carcinoma of the nodulo-ulcerative type showing wide ulceration with marginal multiple small nodules, is presented. It was trapezoidal in shape, having dimensions of 7 cm at the greatest basal width, 6 cm vertically with different anterior and posterior margin dimensions, and 5 cm horizontally at the top margin. After wide excision of the lesion including 5-10 mm safety margins, the wound was reconstructed with a local skin flap and split-thickness skin graft. The reconstructed wound healed well without recurrence for 1 year.

Hierarchically porous, chemically activated carbon materials are readily derived from biomass using hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) and chemical activation processes. In this study, empty fruit bunches (EFB) were chosen as the carbon source due to their sustainability, high lignin-content, abundance, and low cost. The lignin content in the EFB was condensed and carbonized into a bulk non-porous solid via the HTC process, and then transformed into a hierarchical porous structure consisting of macro- and micropores by chemical activation. As confirmed by various characterization results, the optimum activation temperature for supercapacitor applications was determined to be 700°C. The enhanced capacitive performance is attributed to the textural property of the extremely high specific surface area of 2861.4 m2 g–1. The prepared material exhibited hierarchical porosity and surface features with oxygen functionalities, such as carboxyl and hydroxyl groups, suitable for pseudocapacitance. Finally, the as-optimized nanoporous carbons exhibited remarkable capacitive performance, with a specific capacitance of 402.3 F g–1 at 0.5 A g–1, a good rate capability of 79.8% at current densities from 0.5 A g–1 to 10 A g–1, and excellent life cycle behavior of 10,000 cycles with 96.5% capacitance retention at 20 A g–1.
