      • Prediction of a rectal temperature utilizing a thermal perception index

        이 논문은 신체온도를 직접 측정하지 않고서 신체온도를 예상하는 모델을 연구한 것이다. 열감지지수 (TPI)를 개발하여 환경으로부터 느끼는 체감온도와 몸의 내부온도인 직장온도 (Trec)와 몸의 외부온도인 피부온도 (Tskin)를 예측하도록 하였다. Kwon과 Ramsey의 개발모델을 Goldman의 모델과 비교해본 결과 정확도에 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없었다. 회귀분석과 경험을 토대로 만든 체감온도를 예측할 수 있는 손쉬운 Kwon의 열감지지수 (KTPI)도 제시하였다. 대부분의 사람들이 쉽게 예측할 수 있도록 측정 또는 사용가능한 몇 개의 환경변수로부터 쉽게 몸의 예상 내부온도와 외부온도를 계산할 수 있게 단순화하였다.

        日本語 액센트에 대하여

        A previously unquestioned view about Japanese accent has been that the dialects spoken around the old capital of Kyoto are the most conservative in Japan. Proto­Japanese accent has been made virtually identical to the modern Kyoto system. But this view does not accord with the linguistic evidence, which points unmistakeably towards innovations in Kyoto. The present article outlines a completely new interpretation of Japanese accent history, according to which the Kyoto dialect separated from the surrounding dialects in historical times. The principal structural change was the movement of the accent locus one syllable to the left. The original accent locations have been preserved in other main­island dialects, including that of Tokyo. Once examined from this new viewpoint, a number of mysterioes about Japanese accent can be clarified. Some of these long­standing problems and their solutions are discussed here.

        Some Remarks on Reconstructing Earlier Korean

        Prior to the fifteenth century, Korean had fewer pitch distinctions than it did in the Middle Korean period. Internal evidence suggests that many, if not most, of these distinctions arose from an earlier, predictable pitch shape. The principal hypotheses summarized in this paper are as follows: The accent classes and word tones of the modern Koran dialects can largely be derived from the Middle Korean pitch system. However, this same dialect evidence, together with philological evidence adduced by Kim Wancin and Ceng Yenchan, also suggests that pitch variation after the first high pitch in a Middle Korean phrase was not distinctive. Many of the tonal distinctions that did exist in Middle Korean were not original. were not original. There was once a typical pitch shape for native Korean morphemes in which the last syllable was automatically made prominent. For two-syllable nouns, for example, this canonical shape was Low-High. Morphemes with different pitch patterns were aberrancies. Some were loans. Other came to have a different pitch pattern because of a distinctive segmental shape. Still others may have been etymological compounds that had been reanalyzed. A significant cause of some exceptional pitch patterns was vowel syncope. Among other things, it is suggested that the monosyllabic, high-pitched shapes of verb stems such as khu´-‘be big’ and tho´- ‘ride’ were created through the loss of a first-syllable vowel. Recent philological evidence uncovered by Lee Ki-Moon shows what the earlier segmental shapes of these verb stems were.

        Economic and Fast-track Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements and Bridge Decks

        The last 10 years have seen considerable growth in the use of proprietary and special repair cements for concrete pavements in the state of Oklahoma. Many of these products lend themselves to "fast track" construction techniques that allow reopening to traffic within 12 hours or less. These products achieve high early strengths by accelerating the Portland cement hydration process for both Type I and Type III cements. In this paper, the important features of a durable repair which include strength, compatibility and bond or adhesion are first discussed. Then the development, testing and field implementation of the aforementioned materials are discussed including the learning curve required to implement a repair system, not just install a new material. Some of the materials discussed, while expensive on a cost per unit basis, hold great promise for economical use on fast track project.

        THE INFLECTING STEMS OF PROTO-KOREAN

        The proto forms of Korean verbs are reconstructed through the method of internal reconstruction, supplemented by comparative evidence from the modern dialects. According to the hypothesis developed in this paper, Proto-Korean had no pitch, length, or stress distinctions. Instead, the last syllable of a word or morpheme was automatically given prominence. The complex pitch system found at the Middle Korean stage of the language, as well as the pitch accent systems found in a number of modern dialects, developed as a result of changes that took place in the segmentals. The principal change in the segmentals was vowel syncope, which produced consonant clusters. Aspirated consonants developed from clusters containing a velar obstruent. In addition, voiced obstruents lenited, and in later stages of Korean the distinctive feature of voicing was eventually lost.

        Post-Damage Repair of Prestressed Concrete Girders

        Concrete is an economical construction material and for that reason it is widely used in buildings and infrastructures. The use of deicing salts, expansion joint failure, and freeze-thaw cycles have led to concrete bridge girders experiencing corrosion of steel reinforcement and becoming unsafe for driving. The goal of this research is to assess the effectiveness of current and possible repair techniques for the end region of damaged prestressed concrete girders. To do this, three American Association of State Highway and Transportation prestressed concrete girders were tested to failure, repaired, and retested. Three different repair materials were tested including carbon fiber, glass fiber, and surface mounted rods. Each different repair material was also tested with and without injected epoxy. Comparisons were then made to determine if injecting epoxy had a positive effect on stiffness and strength recovery as well as which repair type regained the largest percentage of original strength.
