The turning circle of a ship is the path followed by her center of gravity in making a turn of 360° degree or more with helm at constant angle. But generally it means her path traced at full angle of the rudder. For the ordinary ship the bow will be inside and the stern outside this circle. It has been usually understood that the turning circle is not essentially affected by ship's speed at Froude numbers less than about 0.3. However, it is recently reported that the speed provide considerable effects upon the turning circle on piloting many ships actually at sea. In this paper, the author analyzed what effects the speed could provide on the turning circle theoretically from the viewpoint of ship motions and examined how the alteration of the speed at Froude no. under 0.30 affect the turning circle actually, through experiments of actual ships of a small and large size.
Assessing Activity Limitation Among Cancer Survivors in Korea Using Data from a Nationwide Survey
Oh, Myueng Guen,Han, Mi Ah,Byeon, Yu Mi,Bae, Kyung Min,Choi, Seong-Hyung Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.7
Background: More than 1 million cancer survivors reside in Korea. We here investigated activity limitations of cancer survivors compared to controls without a history of cancer. Materials and Methods: Using the 4th and 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2012) data, we identified 1,155 adult cancer survivors. Activity limitations were defined as limitation in activities of daily living, experience of lying in a sickbed, and number of days lying in a sickbed during the last month. Descriptive analysis and multiple logistic regression compared these measures for survivors and controls by sex and age groups. Results: Approximately 29.4% of cancer survivors reported limitation in activities of daily living, 14.6% experienced lying in a sickbed, and 4.3% experienced more than 15 days lying in a sickbed during the last month. After controlling for demographic and health-related factors, cancer survivors were more likely to report activity limitation than controls. The associations were similar across sex and age groups. Conclusions: Cancer survivors have increased activity limitation compared to controls and these limitations persist across sex and age. Targeted interventions and improved management are essential for improving cancer survivor daily life.
Comparison of Ionic Liquid and Ion-Gel Top-Gate MoS₂ Field-Effect Transistors
Guen Hyung Oh,TaeWan Kim 한국진공학회(ASCT) 2021 Applied Science and Convergence Technology Vol.30 No.5
Polymer electrolytes and ionic liquids (ILs) have attracted significant interest in applications as gate dielectrics. In this study, we fabricated top-gated molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) thin-film transistors using IL and ion-gel (IG) gate dielectrics. Room-temperature Raman spectra measurements indicated a dominant peak spectral emission at 358 cm−1 (1 2) and 406.44 cm−1 (1g) associated with bilayer MoS₂ films. The fabricated thin-film field-effect transistors (FET) with IG gate dielectric exhibited band transport with a highest mobility of 0.5 cm²/V⋅s, and a poor ON/OFF ratio of ~10. By contrast, the FET with IL gate dielectric exhibited a 3400 % improvement in terms of the mobility (17.9 cm²/V⋅s), and a 1000 % improvement of the ON/OFF ratio (~100).
Family History and Survival of Patients with Gastric Cancer: A Meta-Analysis
Oh, Myueng Guen,Kim, Jin Hwa,Han, Mi Ah,Park, Jong,Ryu, So Yeon,Choi, Seong Woo Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.8
Background: Previous studies have generated conflicting evidence regarding associations between family history and survival after gastric cancer surgery. In this study, we investigated this question using a meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: To identify relevant studies, PubMed and Embase databases were searched up to June 2013. Two reviewers independently assessed search results and data extraction of included studies. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for overall survival (OS) were calculated based on fixed- or random-effects models. Homogeneity of effects across studies was assessed using $x^2$ test statistics and quantified by $I^2$. Results: A total of five studies were selected according to the inclusion criteria. The total number of patients included was 2,030, which ranged from 145 to 598 per study. There was no significant difference in OS by family history of cancer (HR=0.83, 95%CIs=0.50-1.38), but subgroup analysis of patients with a first-degree family history of cancer (HR=0.74, 95%CIs=0.60-0.93) and gastric cancer family history (HR=0.56, 95%CIs=0.41-0.76) tended to show better OS in these patients. Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests that a first-degree family history of cancer or gastric cancer family history is associated with better survival of gastric cancer patients after surgery, after a systematic review of five previous studies. These results can be applied by clinicians when counselling patients regarding their risk of death from gastric cancer. Further study is needed to investigate the underlying mechanism between family history and survival in gastric cancer patients.
High-performance Te-doped p-type MoS₂ transistor with high-K insulators
Guen Hyung Oh,TaeWan Kim 한국진공학회 2021 한국진공학회 학술발표회초록집 Vol.2021 No.2
Herein, we demonstrate the n-type conductivity suppressing property of the tellurium (Te)-doped multilayer MoS2, grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. The back-gated as-grown Te-doped multilayer MoS2 field-effect transistor (FET) is observed to exhibit p-type behavior. Enhanced device performance has been achieved by doping the p-type MoS2 transistors in high-K dielectric gate insulators with Te. pFET devices containing Al2O3 dielectric insulators exhibit extremely high performance, including a maximum mobility of ~182 cm2/V·s, a low subthreshold swing of ~215 m V/dec.

A new finite element equation is derived by applying quadratic time integration scheme to the Gurtin's variational formulation for the analysis of the linear transient elastodynamic problems to increase the numerical accuracy. Numerical results are obtained by using the axial and axisymmetric and spherically symmetric one-dimensional bar element. and compared with the previous solutions by other researchers. Good agreements are obtained between numerical and theoretical solutions. which shows the validity and accuracy of the presented method.
Detection of Helicobacter heilmannii Infection in a Cat
Hong-Guen Oh,Youngho Kim,Hyun-A Lee,Okjin Kim 한국실험동물학회 2009 Laboratory Animal Research Vol.25 No.4
A 5-year-old female Persian cat was presented for investigation of anorexia and occasional vomiting. Abdominal radiography and sonography did not demonstrate any abnormal lesions. The cat had been fed a commercial pellet diet. The possibility of feline leukemia, feline immunodeficiency virus and heartworm was ruled out from the results of rapid test kits. Helicobacter species was detected by the rapid urease test with vomiting materials and Helicobacter rpoB DNA polymerase chain reaction analysis with stool. Thereafter, Helicobacter heilmannii was identified by species-specific polymerase chain reaction analysis. This case was confirmed as gastroenteric disease induced by Helicobacter heilmannii, and antibiotic therapy was performed. The cat made a complete recovery following an antibiotic therapy. On our knowledge, this is a very rare report about Helicobacter heilmannii-induced gastroenteric disease in cat and may provide a valuable data on the study of feline Helicobacter infection.
