Jungian type theory provides the opportunity to identify cross-national differences in dominant extraverted and introverted cognitive preferences, as well as differences in commitment to rational and irrational cognitive processes. Canadian and Korean managers preferred significantly different cognitive styles as the basis both for their introverted personal thinking / information processing, and for their extraverted interactions with others. Canadians were more committed to rational cognitive processes intended to make sense of situations while Koreans were more committed to irrational processes intended to correctly perceive and experience situations. The paper represents an advance in the analytical use of Jungian type theory, and also offers practical suggestions for improving Canadian / Korean managerial interactions.
