<P>Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are often encapsulated into drug-carrying nano/microsized particles for simultaneous magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and treatment of diseased tissues. Unfortunately, encapsulated SPIONs may have a limited ability to modulate the <I>T</I><SUB>2</SUB>-weighted relaxation of water protons, but this insight has not been examined systematically. This study demonstrates that SPIONs immobilized on 200 nm diameter poly(lactic-<I>co</I>-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles using Pickering emulsification present 18-fold higher relaxivity than encapsulated SPIONs and 1.5-fold higher relaxivity than free SPIONs. In contrast, the SPIONs immobilized on 10 μm diameter PLGA particles exhibit a minor increase in MR relaxivity. This interesting finding will significantly impact current efforts to synthesize and assemble advanced MR contrast agents.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

This study aims to find how to implement the Lexical Approach into Korean Language Teaching. As D. Wilkins pointed out: "Without grammar, little can be conveyed; without vocabulary, nothing can be conveyed." - and this clearly reflects the important role of lexis in language learning. The communication of meaning is placed at the center of language and language learning. This naturally leads to much more emphasis on the main carrier of meaning, lexis (not only just words but also multi-word chunks). Therefore, the concept of a vocabulary should be extended from words to lexis. This paper develops the O-H-E methodology that includes a language learning theory, `Noticing and Awareness`. Also, some lexically focused teaching-learning materials are presented as samples. They can be applied to the structure, planning, and implementation of lexically-focused language courses. The changes of mind-set in both content and methodology which implementing the Lexical Approach involves do not mean a radical shift. Rather, they are easily adopted in day-to-day language classes. <P>A multifunctional liquid chromatography system that performs 1-dimensional, 2-dimensional (strong cation exchange/reverse phase liquid chromatography or SCX/RPLC) separations and online phosphopeptide enrichment using a single binary nanoflow pump has been developed. With a simple operation of a function selection valve equipped with a SCX column and a TiO<SUB>2</SUB> (titanium dioxide) column, a fully automated selection of three different experiment modes was achieved. Because the current system uses essentially the same solvent flow paths, the same trap column, and the same separation column for reverse-phase separation of 1D, 2D, and online phosphopeptides enrichment experiments, the elution time information obtained from these experiments is in excellent agreement, which facilitates correlating peptide information from different experiments.
