The antimicrobial activities of five chemotherapeutic agents against Flavobacterium psychrophilum were determined. Forty-seven strains of F. psychrophilum were isolated from 1995 to 2000 in Shiga. Wakayama and Tokushima Prefectures. Japan. The susceptibilities of the isolates to the five drugs were expressed as the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC). The strains were sensitive to florfenicol(FF)and sulfisozole(SF), and were insensitive to oxytetracycline(OTC), oxolinic acid(OA) and sodium-nifurstyrenate(NFS). However a few strains were confirmed to be resistant to SF and FF.

Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) combines endoscopy and intraluminal ultrasonography, and allows imaging with a high-frequency transducer over a short distance to generate high-resolution ultrasonographic images. EUS is now a widely accepted modality for diagnosing pancreatobiliary diseases. EUS-guided fineneedle aspiration (EUS-FNA) using a curved linear- array echoendoscope was initially described more than 20 years ago, and since then many researchers have expanded its indications to sample diverse lesions and have also used it for various therapeutic purposes. EUS-guided biliary drainage (EUS-BD) is one of the therapeutic procedures that has been developed using a curved linear-array echoendoscope. Technically, EUS-BD includes rendezvous techniques via transesophageal, transgastric, and transduodenal routes, EUS-guided choledochoduodenostomy (EUS-CDS), and EUS-guided hepaticogastrostomy (EUS-HGS). Published data have demonstrated a high success rate, albeit with a comparatively high rate of nonfatal complications for EUS-CDS and EUS-HGS, and a comparatively low success rate with a low complication rate for the rendezvous technique. At present, these procedures represent an alternative to surgery or percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) for patients with obstructive jaundice when endoscopic biliary drainage (EBD) has failed. However, these procedures should be performed in centers with extensive experience in linear EUS and therapeutic biliary ERCP. Large prospective studies are needed in the near future to establish standardized EUS-BD procedures as well as to perform controlled comparative trials between EUS-BD and PTBD, between rendezvous techniques and direct-access techniques (EUS-CDS and EUS-HGS), and between EBD and EUS-BD. Multivariate Time Series Prediction by Blind Signal Deconvolution
Kenji Sugimoto,Hirokazu Kondo 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
This paper proposes a new method in a prediction problem of multivariate time series based upon blind deconvolution. The method firstly predicts a one-step-ahead signal and its volatility(covariance) by means of a scheme called VARMA-ICA, which has been recently developed for system identification with unknown inputs. The predicted signal and volatility are then used to minimize the risk of prediction. Furthermore, the paper applies the proposed method to a strategy for stock trade which deals with multiple brands. Numerical simulation illustrates the effectiveness of the method.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to elucidate whether intrasynovial corticosteroid injections for trigger digit reduced the volume of the tendon and pulley on high-resolution ultrasonography. Methods: Twenty-three digits of 20 patients with trigger digit were included. Each affected finger was graded clinically according to the following classification: grade I for pre-triggering, grade II for active triggering, grade III for passive triggering, and grade IV for presence of contracture. Axial ultrasound examinations were performed before an intrasynovial corticosteroid injection and at an average of 31 days after the injection. The transverse diameter, thickness, and crosssectional area of the tendon and the thickness of the pulley were measured by two independent, blinded researchers. Results: At least 1 grade of improvement was achieved in this study group by the time of the second examination. The transverse diameter and cross-sectional area of the tendon and the thickness of the pulley significantly decreased (P<0.05). Conclusion: The injection of a single dose of betamethasone improved clinical symptoms by reducing the volume of both the tendon and pulley, which may be related to the fact that tendon and pulley ruptures are delayed by corticosteroid injections.
Evaluation of physical function in older adults at individual and community levels

Purpose: We aimed to develop a novel physical performance test to easily evaluate lower limb muscle function and risk of their functional disability in a clinical setting. Community-level evaluation is also needed to identify a “high-risk community” and to promote a community-level approach for the prevention of functional disability. In this presentation, we will share the outline of our research project evaluating physical function in older adults at individual and community levels. Method: To evaluate physical function, we measured ground reaction force (GRF) during a sit-to-stand movement and calculated two parameters: peak reaction force per body weight and rate of force development per body weight (RFD/w). We investigated the validity of these parameters using data from the Kasama Study. For community-level evaluation, we performed ecological analyses using data from the Japan Gerontological Evaluation Study (JAGES), a nationwide research project including a questionnaire survey on aging, with over 100,000 participants in 2010 and 2013. We calculated the prevalence of physical function decline in 31 municipalities from the JAGES 2010 survey and investigated relevant factors affecting the prevalence. Result: We found that in older adults, two GRF parameters negatively correlated with age, had good criterion-related validity with lower limb muscle strength and power, and had relationships with physical function, history of fall, and ability to perform mobility activities. Further, we found that RFD/w declined with increase in incidences of falls and could predict onset of mobility limitations. Community-level analyses revealed that the prevalence of physical function decline varied from 14.6% to 32.2% in the 31 municipalities. Higher frequencies of participation in sports and hobby groups in a municipality were found to negatively correlate with the prevalence of physical function decline (r = .0.58 and .0.74, respectively). Conclusion: Measuring the GRF parameters during a sit-to-stand movement might provide a better evaluation of an older individual’s physical function, with sufficient validity. Recently, we have developed a specialized weight scale for measuring GRF more easily in a clinical setting. Further, we found that regional variations exist in the physical function of older adults. Community intervention with increasing participation in sports or hobby groups in a community might be an effective way to reduce these variations.
Study on recycling of waste water from spent water-soluble coolant
Kazuya Takada,Yasuo Kondo,Kenji Yamaguchi,Satoshi Sakamoto 대한기계학회 2010 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.24 No.1
We propose a recycling system that can recover the useful water from the spent water soluble coolant by using a surfactant and powdered activated carbon. The processing of about 70 liters of actual spent water soluble coolant yielded about 60 liters of clear water with 6.7 of pH and 0.0 of Brix value. About 120 liters of recycle water-soluble coolant was prepared by diluting an emulsion type cutting fluid 20 times with the recycle water. The recycle coolant has been showing the very similar Brix value and pH changes as those of virgin coolant until 100 days usage. The recycle coolant also showed the same potential to inhibit the progress of flank wear as that of virgin coolant. These facts indicate that the recycled water can be utilized as a dilutor of renewal water-soluble coolant.
