Phase Transition in Ferroelectric SrBi$_2$Ta$_2$O$_9$ Single Crystal

Single plate-like crystal of Bi-layered ferroelectric perovskite SrBi2Ta2O9 was prepared by self- ux method. Temperature dependence of the lattice constant c, specic heat, Raman scattering were measured to study phase transitions in SrBi2Ta2O9. There are clear anomalies at 613 K (Tc) and 850 K (T) in the c-axis. The mechanism of this phase transition was discussed in terms of Dzialoshinsky-Moriya-type interaction.
Fluoride Inhibition of Photosynthesis in Some Crop Plants

콩, 보리, 토마토 (以上 C_3 作物)과 옥수수(C_4 作物)의 切斷葉에 HF를 暴露하거나, KF를 供與하였을 때 光合成速度와 蒸散速度는 低下하였다. 옥수수의 光合成低下는 콩, 보리, 토마토 보다 더 했다. 옥수수는 토마토보다 急激한 蒸散速度의 低下를 보였고, 토마토는 甚한 弗素阻害를 받았다. 이러한 結果는 옥수수가 氣孔을 閉鎖한데 기인하였다 할 수 있겠다. Fluoride inhibited photosynthesis rates of intact leaves. When detached leaves of soybean, barley, maize and tomato were fumigated with HF or supplied with KF through their cut bases by transpiration stream, photosynthesis rates were depressed. The repression of photosynthesis in maize leaves was more pronounced than those in soybean, barley and tomato leaves. The transpiration rate of maize leaf was also repressed during the application of KF while that of tomato leaf was hardly affected. These results indicate that the increased fluoride inhibition of maizephotosynthesis is caused by stomatal closure.
First-principles study of carbon impurity effects in the pseudo-hexagonal Ta2O5

Carbon-impurity effects on electronic structures and oxygen-vacancy formation stability of Ta2O5 resistive memories are investigated using the density-functional theory. Generalized gradient approximation with on-site Coulomb corrections is employed for the investigation. The unintentionally incorporated carbon can cause unwanted increase in the resistive off-state leakage current by extending the defect state region in the bandgap. The carbon impurities are found to be preferentially located in the neighborhood of the oxygen vacancies, and they reduce the oxygen-vacancy formation energy, which is predicted to have an influence on lowering the forming voltage.
