In Poland there is still little work being done in the field of corpus linguistics. As a matter of fact, linguists occupy themselves with the creation of electronic text corpora of Polish mediaeval texts but there are no electronic corpora that would allow one to investigate different word order configurations, for example the position of the finite verb with respect to the object, by means of the computer. Thanks to electronic annotated corpora it is possible to investigate very large text samples within a very short time. Moreover, the larger the language sample is, the better, because if a given language sample is too small, there is always the risk that it will not be representative. So in order to make language samples more representative, and thus to make the results more objective, it is necessary to enlarge them, and this in turn can be achieved by the creation of an annotated corpus. We hope that our ideas about how to construct such a corpus for the investigation of word order in Old Polish texts will be helpful for those who are interested the syntax of Old Polish texts and in corpus linguistics in general. Moreover, we hope that our ideas will serve as a guide to how to construct tagged corpora in an easy and economical way just having a PC and the Microsoft Word at the disposal.
