Background: Worldwide, over half a million women died of breast cancer in 2011 alone. Mammography screening is associated with a reduction of 20 to 35% in breast cancer mortality. The aim of this study was to determine the awareness and practice of mammography screening and predictors of its uptake in Malaysian women attending a primary care clinic. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among women aged 40 to 74 years attending a primary care clinic in Selangor, Malaysia. An assisted structured questionnaire included questions on socio-demography, source of information and level of knowledge. An adapted version of the revised Champion Health Belief Model Scale plus other associated factors for mammography screening up-take were also included as part of the questionnaire. Predictors for mammography screening uptake were only determined in those who were aware about mammography screening. Significant predictors were determined by logistic regression. Results: 447 women were recruited for this study; 99.1% of them (n: 411) were aware about breast cancer. Only 50.1% (n: 206) had knowledge about mammography screening. Prevalence of clinical breast-examination (CBE) was 23.3% (n: 104) and mammography screening up-take was 13.2% (n: 59). The predictors for the latter were those who have had clinical breast-examination (aOR=17.58, 95%CI: 7.68-39.82) and those aged between 50 to 59 years (aOR=3.94, 95%CI: 1.61-9.66) as well as those aged 60 years and above (aOR=6.91, 95%CI: 2.28-20.94). Good knowledge and positive beliefs about mammography screening were not associated with mammography screening uptake. Conclusions: Half of our Malaysian women were aware about mammography screening. However, the uptake of mammography was low. Previous CBE and older age were significant predictors of mammography screening uptake. Increasing CBE services may increase compliance with guidelines.

This study investigates the impact of the country's governance on the revenue efficiency of 108 Islamic banks from 26 countries offering Islamic banking and finance products services. The technical efficiencies of individual Islamic banks have been analyzed using the Data Envelopment Analysis method. The data will be pooled across the selected countries and utilize the intermediation approach. The Ordinary Least Square estimation method is employed to examine the impact of country supervision and regulation on the technical efficiency of Islamic banks. As robustness check, the study examines the impact of the level of bank regulations and supervision on the efficiency of Islamic banks operating in different income-level countries. The results found that the stricter the supervisory power, the less strict capital requirement, the tighter the restrictions on non-banking activities, and the stricter the private monitoring enhance statistically significantly the level of efficiency of Islamic banks. In upgrading the regulations and supervision of the Islamic banks, the existing regulatory framework based on the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) must be complemented with the prescriptions on Islamic banking or Shariah compliance diligently, so that the Islamic banks could be regulated accurately and further improve the technical efficiency of their operations.

This study investigates the impact of the country's governance on the revenue efficiency in the banking sectors of 42 Islamic banks in 15 countries offering Islamic banking and financial services. Technical efficiencies of individual Islamic banks were analyzed using the Data Envelopment Analysis method. The Ordinary Least Square estimation method is employed to examine the impact of country supervision and regulation on the technical efficiency of Islamic banks. With robustness check, the study assesses the impact of bank regulations and supervision on the efficiency of Islamic banks operating in different regions. The empirical findings suggest that supervisory power, activity restrictions, and private monitoring positively influence the efficiency of Islamic banks. On the other hand, we observe a negative impact of capital requirement on Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries. The findings indicate that supervisory power, activity restrictions, and private monitoring positively influence the efficiency of Islamic banks in Asia, but vice versa on capital requirement in MENA countries. This study will contribute to the body of knowledge by assessing the types of reforms in bank regulations and supervision that work best for Islamic banks in order to increase the level of efficiency and the level of regulations and supervision of Islamic banks.

Kelulut honey (KH) is a natural product-derived food produced by stingless bees of Trigona or Meliponine species. Several studies have shown that the geographical origin of honey significantly affects its pharmacological properties. Thus, this study aims to characterise the pharmacological properties of KH harvested from different geographical locations. The total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant levels, cytotoxic, and anti-inflammatory activities of pure KH harvested from three different locations (Sarawak, Pahang and Selangor) were compared. Among the samples, KH harvested from Selangor exhibited the highest TPC, antioxidant levels, and cytotoxic activity against MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells, followed by KH harvested from Sarawak and Pahang. The IC 50 of MCF-7 cells treated with KH harvested from Selangor was at least 2-fold lower than the IC 50 of MDA-MB-231 cells, suggesting that KH is more cytotoxic to oestrogen receptor (ER)- and progesterone receptor (PR)-positive (MCF-7) compared to triple-negative (MDA-MB-231) breast cancer cells. Two non-cytotoxic concentrations (1% and 0.5%; v/v) were selected for the anti-inflammatory assay using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells. KH harvested from Selangor and Pahang (at a concentration of 1%; v/v) significantly inhibited nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells compared to control cells. These findings provide evidence that the geographical origin of KH may indeed influence its pharmacological properties. Our data suggest that KH harvested from Selangor has a better quality compared to KH harvested from Pahang and Sarawak based on its high TPC, antioxidant levels and anti-inflammatory activity. Furthermore, it exhibits in vitro anticancer potential in breast cancer cell lines.
