      • Neural Network-Based Ranging with LTE Channel Impulse Response for Localization in Indoor Environments

        Halim Lee,Ali A. Abdallah,Jongmin Park,Jiwon Seo,Zaher M. Kassas 제어로봇시스템학회 2020 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2020 No.10

A neural network (NN)-based approach for indoor localization via cellular long-term evolution (LTE) signals is proposed. The approach estimates, from the channel impulse response (CIR), the range between an LTE eNodeB and a receiver. A software-defined radio (SDR) extracts the CIR, which is fed to a long short-term memory model (LSTM) recurrent neural network (RNN) to estimate the range. Experimental results are presented comparing the proposed approach against a baseline RNN without LSTM. The results show a receiver navigating for 100 m in an indoor environment, while receiving signals from one LTE eNodeB. The ranging root-mean squared error (RMSE) and ranging maximum error along the receiver’s trajectory were reduced from 13.11 m and 55.68 m, respectively, in the baseline RNN to 9.02 m and 27.40 m, respectively, with the proposed RNN-LSTM.

Increasing the Cooling Rate of the Vapor Compression Cycle by Heating

        M. S. Abd-Elhady,E. Bishara,M. A. Halim 대한설비공학회 2021 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.29 No.1

Refrigeration and air conditioning cycles consume a large amount of electrical energy and the shortage in traditional sources of energy is the main reasons for governments to use renewable energy. The most power consuming part in the Vapor Compression Cycle (VCC) is the gas compressor. Therefore, the objective of this research is to increase the cooling rate of the VCC using the same compressor, and that is done by heating the refrigerant coming out from the compressor. The proposed cycle is similar to the VCC except that the compression processes is done in two stages, the first stage via a gas compressor and in the second stage by heating the refrigerant under constant volume. The heating process can be done using solar energy. An experimental setup has been developed to study the influence of heating the refrigerant on the cooling rate of the VCC. The heating process is performed after the compressor, and it is done under constant volume in order to increase the pressure of the refrigerant. Four experiments have been performed; the first experiment is a normal VCC, i.e., without heating, while in the second, third and fourth experiments, the refrigerant has been heated to 50°C, 100°C and 150°C, respectively. It has been found that the cooling power increases with the heating temperature. Heating increases the pressure of the refrigerant in VCC, and consequently increases the mass flow rate of the refrigerant that results in an increase in the refrigeration power for the same compressor power. However, the disadvantage of heating the refrigerant is that it increases the evaporator temperature, which limits the possibility of the VCC to be used in freezing applications.

      • A magnetic-spring-based, low-frequency-vibration energy harvester comprising a dual Halbach array

        Salauddin, M,Halim, M A,Park, J Y IOP 2016 Smart materials & structures Vol.25 No.9

<P>Energy harvesting that uses low-frequency vibrations is attractive due to the availability of such vibrations throughout the ambient environment. Significant power generation at low-frequency vibrations, however, is challenging because the power flow decreases as the frequency decreases; moreover, designing a spring-mass system that is suitable for low-frequency-vibration energy harvesting is difficult. In this work, our proposed device overcomes both of these challenges by using a dual Halbach array and magnetic springs. Each Halbach array concentrates the magnetic-flux lines on one side of the array while suppressing the flux lines on the other side; therefore, a dual Halbach array allows for an interaction between the concentrated magnetic-flux lines and the same coil so that the maximum flux linkage occurs. During the experiment, vibration was applied in a horizontal direction to reduce the gravity effect on the Halbach-array structure. To achieve an increased power generation at low-amplitude and low-frequency vibrations, the magnetic structure of the dual Halbach array and the magnetic springs were optimized in terms of the operating frequency and the power density; subsequently, a prototype was fabricated and tested. The prototype device offers a normalized power density of 133.45 <I>μ</I>W cm−3 g−2 that is much higher than those of recently reported electromagnetic energy harvesters; furthermore, it is capable of delivering a maximum average power of 1093 <I>μ</I>W to a 44 Ω optimum load, at an 11 Hz resonant frequency and under a 0.5 g acceleration.</P>

A Novel Technique for Improving the Performance of Ammonia Absorption Refrigeration Cycle

        Hemeda Shaker M.,Abd-Elhady M. S.,Halim M. A. 대한설비공학회 2021 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.29 No.1

The world is now living in an energy crisis. Refrigeration and air-conditioning systems have become the basics of daily life in various fields and accordingly, it cannot be dispensed. Refrigeration machines and air-conditioning systems are the most energy-consuming systems, independent on the application whether it is domestic, commercial, industrial or medical. Therefore, using cooling systems which are powered by thermal energy, e.g., solar energy, can save a lot of electrical energy. Absorption refrigeration system is an example of a refrigeration system powered by heat energy. However, the system problem here is that it has low coefficient of performance (COP). The objective of this research is to improve the COP of the ammonia absorption cycle. This is done in the absorber unit by improving the absorption of the refrigerant ammonia into the ammonia–water solution. The absorption efficiency is improved by using (1) a stirrer pump to improve mixing, (2) sprayers to increase the contact area between ammonia and ammonia–water solution and (3) continuous cooling of the solution during the absorption process via an external heat exchanger. The COP of the ammonia absorption cycle has increased from 0.48 to 0.715, i.e., by 49%. This is due to the improvement of the absorption of the ammonia into the ammonia–water solution.

Quality Driven Approach for Product Line Architecture Customization in Patient Navigation Program Software Product Line

( Afifah M. Ashari ),( Shahliza Abd Halim ),( Dayang N. A. Jawawi ),( Ushananthiny Suvelayutnan ),( Mohd Adham Isa ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2021 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.15 No.7

Patient Navigation Program (PNP) is considered as an important implementation of health care systems that can assist in patient’s treatment. Due to the feasibility of PNP implementation, a systematic reuse is needed for a wide adoption of PNP computerized system. SPL is one of the promising systematic reuse approaches for creating a reusable architecture to enabled reuse in several similar applications of PNP systems which has its own variations with other applications. However, stakeholder decision making which result from the imprecise, uncertain, and subjective nature of architecture selection based on quality attributes (QA) further hinders the development of the product line architecture. Therefore, this study aims to propose a quality-driven approach using Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) techniques for Software Product Line Architecture (SPLA) to have an objective selection based on the QA of stakeholders in the domain of PNP. There are two steps proposed to this approach. First, a clear representation of quality is proposed by extending feature model (FM) with QA feature to determine the QA in the early phase of architecture selection. Second, MCDA techniques were applied for architecture selection based on objective preference for certain QA in the domain of PNP. The result of the proposed approach is the implementation of the PNP system with SPLA that had been selected using MCDA techniques. Evaluation for the approach is done by checking the approach’s applicability in a case study and stakeholder validation. Evaluation on ease of use and usefulness of the approach with selected stakeholders have shown positive responses. The evaluation results proved that the proposed approach assisted in the implementation of PNP systems.

CSR and Firm Reputation from Employee Perspective

TANGNGISALU, Jannati,MAPPAMIRING, M.,ANDAYANI, Wuryan,YUSUF, Muhammad,PUTRA, Aditya Halim Perdana Kusuma Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.10

This research focuses on the importance of corporate social responsibility in building the company's reputation. Experts have studied CSR as an antecedent of a company's reputation, but the mechanisms underlying this process are rarely explored. Therefore, to fill this research gap, we demonstrate CSR's implementation combined with organizational justice based on discrepancy and equity theory. This study involved 210 employees in a family company. The study's analysis method uses Structural Equation Model (SEM), SmartPLS, with a five-step measurement and analysis procedure. The variables in this study are CSR implementation, organizational justice, employee trust, firm reputation, organizational objectiveness, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and job performance. The results found that some of the direct relationships stated were not significant, but all demonstrations of indirect links were substantial. Besides, optimal CSR and organizational justice provide a reliable and positive domino effect in increasing the role and consequences of employee trust and firm reputation. The findings in this study confirm that upstream-downstream job performance causality can be successfully achieved if job satisfaction has been realized, job satisfaction can be achieved if organizational commitment can also be recognized, and organizational commitment can be developed. Reflection and influence, rather than organizational attractiveness becomes essential.
