Fast algorithm for the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) encoder using texture analysis
Goswami, K.,Lee, J.H.,Kim, B.G. Elsevier science 2016 Information sciences Vol.364 No.-
<P>High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is the newest video coding standard for improvement in video data compression. However, the important challenge of the encoding complexity of HEVC is addressed in a new way. For a natural video sequence, a large number of coding blocks are generally skipped in nature. These need not be transmitted and can be generated in the decoder side using reference pictures. An early skip detection technique for HEVC is proposed based on identification of motionless and homogeneous texture-based regions in a video sequence. Entropy is considered as a feature for analysis of coding unit (CU) texture. An entropy difference between coding units is calculated for identification of motionless and homogeneous regions in a video sequence. Complex texture-based regions are generally encoded as asymmetric motion partitioning (AMP) processing units. An early non-AMP detection technique is also proposed for non-skipped coding blocks using the entropy value of a coding unit. The proposed technique achieved a 40% encoding time reduction, compared with the conventional HEVC encoder, with a negligible degradation in video quality. (C) 2016 Elsevier Inc. A nine month old male child presenting degenerating right ulna (massive osteolysis) has been followed up for two years. The bone completely disappeared due to abscesses on the right forearm and without orthopedic or haematological complications. Repeated lymphocyte cultures showed somatic pairing (mostly chromosome pair 5), end to end association involving chromosome 14, 21, 21 and 16, and satellite enlargement in a high proportion of cells with an otherwise normal 46,XY karyotype. These observations are compared with 13 other types of orthopaedic patients, and we opine that cumulative picture of chromosomal aberrations appears to correspond with the present rare anomaly "Mono Ostolic Osteolysis" involving right ulna. None of the controls or any other orthopaedic anomaly studied hereunder exhibits this chromosomal picture.

<P>Utilization of different types of solid wastes through composting is important for environmental sustainability and restoring soil quality. Although drum composting is an efficient technology, the possibility of heavy metal contamination restricts its large-scale use. In this research, a field experiment was conducted to evaluate the impact of water hyacinth drum compost (DC) and traditional vermicompost (VC) on soil quality and crop growth in an agro-ecosystem cultivated intensively with tomato and cabbage as test crops. A substantial improvement in soil health was observed with respect to nutrient availability, physical stability, and microbial diversity due to the application of drum compost and traditional vermicompost. Moreover, soil organic carbon was enriched through increased humic and fulvic acid carbon. Interestingly, heavy metal contamination was less significant in vermicompost-treated soils than in those receiving the other treatments. The use of VC and DC in combination with recommended chemical fertilization effectively stimulated crop growth, yield, product quality, and storage longevity for both tomato and cabbage. Perceived corporate hypocrisy, a perception of corporations claiming to have a virtuous character that they do not really possess, is a growing concern for US businesses. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of retail employees’ perceived corporate hypocrisy (PCH) related to corporations’ moral responsibility efforts on their work-related behaviors, namely turnover intentions, mediated by their lack of trust and poor attitude towards the corporation. An online self-reported survey was conducted using 520 adult US retail employees. The study results revealed that PCH positively impacted employee turnover intention, participants’ lack of trust in the corporation as well their less favorable attitude towards the same. Also, both lack of trust and less favorable attitude mediated the relation between PCH and turnover intention. The study provides implications for corporations and indicates that given employees are irreplaceable resources to the corporation and can act as creators of competitive advantages, it is essential that corporations take initiatives to align their moral values with those of their employees or risk losing them.
Role of Dietary Zinc as a Nutritional Immunomodulator
Goswami, T.K.,Bhar, R.,Jadhav, S.E.,Joardar, S.N.,Ram, G.C. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2005 Animal Bioscience Vol.18 No.3
Zinc is ubiquitous in all living cells. Structural and catalytic properties of cellular enzymes are zinc dependent. Zinc deficiency leads to a variety of pathological abnormalities with immune impairment. It is an established fact that nutritional status contributes to overall immune response of individuals. Outcome of zinc deficiency on immune system is so drastic that it is difficult to conceive at the first instance. Zinc supplementation has been advocated to prevent diarrheal disease in children with poor nutritional status. The bioavailability of zinc depends upon its sources. Moreover it varies between monogastrics and ruminants. Controversy still prevails between inorganic and organic sources of zinc with respect to their superiority in bioavailability. Zinc exerts immunostimulatory effects in various laboratory and farm animals. Animals having congenital zinc deficiency diseases like A46 lethal trait usually die due to impairment of the immune system unless treated with zinc. The immune mechanism of zinc and its effect on animals and man are discussed. Zinc has been considered as extremely safe at higher therapeutic doses, but does not provide any beneficial effect but rather may cause immunosuppression. More recently, zinc has been prescribed for immunodeficient hosts, to modulate the immune system so that to a certain extent it can combat against opportunistic pathogens.
Morphology control and photovoltaic application of solvothermally synthesized PbS nanostructures
Goswami, S.K.,Oh, E. North-Holland 2014 Materials letters Vol.117 No.-
<P>PbS nanostructures are synthesized using solvothermal method. Here, EDTA is employed as a chelating agent and PEG-PPG-PEG polymer as a structure directing surfactant. The possible factors behind the formation of nanostructures of various morphologies are explained. Crystalline quality is improved when EDTA is employed in the growth. In the Raman spectra, overtones of the longitudinal optical (LO) phonon peaks are observed. In the I-V characteristics of the photovoltaic devices, both open circuit voltage and short circuit current were improved as compared to the earlier devices made by using a similar mechanical pressing method with PbS nanowires. In this paper, we prove some fixed-point theorems in partially ordered fuzzy metric spaces for (𝜙, 𝜓, 𝛽)-Geraghty contraction type mappings which are generalization of mappings with Geraghty contraction type condition. Application of the derived results are shown in proving the existence of unique solution to some boundary value problems.

This research investigated how fashion corporations’ paltering- based deceptive marketing, specifically related to corporate social responsibility (CSR), might influence consumers. Specifically, it investigated if it evokes hypocrisy perceptions to influence consu- mers’ purchase decisions and how the mediating roles of consu- mer-corporation-relationship and consumer-based corporate- reputation can explain such influences. Using a two-factor online experiment (paltering x message replications), data were collected from 252 US consumers. PROCESS results indicated that CSR- paltering positively evoked hypocrisy and, in turn, dampened con- sumer-corporation-relationship and corporate-reputation. Such hypocrisy significantly reduced purchase-intentions, but only when mediated through consumer-corporation-relationship. No significant negative relationships between deception and pur- chase-intentions were observed when mediated by hypocrisy alone or combined with corporate-reputation. Additionally, palter- ing directly influenced relational and reputational evaluations. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on paltering-based decep- tion, prevalent within the fashion industry, and how technically true yet misleading CSR marketing influences consumers. This study also responds to the urgent scholarly calls for investigating deception’s role in consumers’ hypocrisy and adds how this new type of decep- tion is also an attributing factor. Further, it provides corporations insight into how CSR paltering, despite its technically true informa- tion, can damage consumers’ relational and reputational attach- ments and their behavioral intentions if discovered.

<P>The mechanism of bismuth(V)-mediated thioglycoside activation was examined using reaction kinetics and quantum chemical reaction models. NMR experiments show an unusual nonlinear growth/decay curve for the glycosylation reaction. Further studies suggest an anomeric inversion of the beta-glycoside donor to the alpha-donor during its activation, even in the presence of a neighboring 2-position acetate. Interestingly, in situ anomerization was not observed in the activation of an alpha-glycoside donor, and this anomer also showed faster reaction times and higher product diastereoselectivites. Density functional theory calculations identify the structure of the promoter triphenyl bismuth ditriflate, [Ph3Bi(OTf)(2), 1], in solution and map out the energetics of its interactions with the two thioglycoside anomers. These calculations suggest that 1 must bind the thiopropyl arm to induce triflate loss. The computational analyses also show that, unlike most O-glycosides, the beta- and alpha-donor S-glycosides are similar in energy. One energetically reasonable anomerization pathway of the donors is an S(N)1-like mechanism promoted by forming a bismuth-sulfonium adduct with the Lewis acidic Bi(V) for the formation of an oxacarbenium intermediate. Finally, the computed energy compensations needed to form these alpha vs beta Bi adducts is a possible explanation for the differential reactivity of these donors.</P>
