Evaluation of an Oral Health Intervention Questionnaire amongst Parents of Pre-School Children from Bangalore North: A Comparative Study

Deepak Viswanath, Anindita Sarma 대한예방치과학회 2015 International Journal of Clinical Preventive Denti Vol.11 No.1

Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the impact of different and newer health education methods amongst the parents of pre-schoolers from Bangalore-North. Methods: The study comprised of 180 parents along with their respective children from the same socio-economic status from three different play schools having strength of 60 children each. Further, in each school, the children were randomly divided into three groups and questionnaires were distributed on three consecutive days; the filled questionnaires were collected half an hour later on all the three consecutive days. Results: Comparison of the statistical data showed that there was a significant statistical improvement in all groups except the control group. In our study, the respective subgroup III (involving 20 parents each) from all the groups A, B, and C showed significant improvement when compared with other subgroups (I and II). Conclusion: A motion media presentation, as a method of health education and promotion indeed had a big impact on the oral health attitude and knowledge of the parents so that these parents can act as reinforces in improving the oral health among their children.

OPTIMAL UTILIZATION OF SERVICE FACILITY FOR A k-OUT-OF-n SYSTEM WITH REPAIR BY EXTENDING SERVICE TO EXTERNAL CUSTOMERS IN A RETRIAL QUEUE

        Krishnamoorthy, A.,Narayanan, Viswanath C.,Deepak, T.G. 한국전산응용수학회 2007 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.25 No.1

In this paper, we study a k-out-of-n system with single server who provides service to external customers also. The system consists of two parts:(i) a main queue consisting of customers (failed components of the k-out-of-n system) and (ii) a pool (of finite capacity M) of external customers together with an orbit for external customers who find the pool full. An external customer who finds the pool full on arrival, joins the orbit with probability ${\gamma}$ and with probability $1-{\gamma}$ leaves the system forever. An orbital customer, who finds the pool full, at an epoch of repeated attempt, returns to orbit with probability ${\delta}\;(<\;1)$ and with probability $1-{\delta}$ leaves the system forever. We compute the steady state system size probability. Several performance measures are computed, numerical illustrations are provided.

Brain Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Cue-reactivity Can Predict Baclofen Response in Alcohol Use Disorders

        Bharath Holla,Sheshachala Karthik,Jitendriya Biswal,Biju Viswanath,Deepak Jayarajan,Rose Dawn Bharath,Ganesan Venkatasubramanian,Vivek Benegal 대한정신약물학회 2018 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.16 No.3

Objective: Baclofen is a promising treatment for alcohol use disorders (AUD), although its clinical response in humans is mixed. The present study aimed at investigating the impact of baclofen treatment on cue-induced brain activation pattern and its relationship with relapse outcomes. Methods: Twenty-three inpatients with AUD underwent a functional magnetic resonance imaging cue-reactivity task before beginning medication with baclofen and 2 weeks later. Twelve additional inpatients with AUD, who did not receive any anticraving medications, formed the control group. All subjects were prospectively followed up for 90 days post-discharge or until lapse to first alcohol use. Results: Whole-brain linear mixed effects analysis revealed a significant group-by-time interaction with greater activation of the bilateral dorsolateral pre-frontal cortex and right anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) following baclofen treatment in comparison with the control group. Further, cox regression analysis revealed that increased activation of ACC and deactivation of insular cortex (IC) was associated with longer time to first alcohol use only in the baclofen treatment group but not in the control group. Conclusion: This study provides preliminary evidence for the neural predictors of baclofen treatment response in AUD. Baclofen treatment in AUD was associated with changes in cue-reactivity at critical brain regions within the incentive- salience network. Importantly, baclofen treatment-related specific activation of regions involved in cognitive control (ACC) and deactivation of regions involved in reward anticipation (IC) prolonged the time to first alcohol drink
