      • A case study on the effectiveness of a coaching method with a new training device for the acquisition of the Magyar in pommel horse

        Daisuke Murayama 한국코칭능력개발원 2008 Coach Vol.24 No.2

The element known as Travel forward in cross support with support leather, pommel, leather, pommel, leather (3/3) in pommel horse is commonly called the Magyar. This element is categorized as a D value (Code of Points, 2006), and many athletes adopt this element into their performances. Thus, the acquisition of this element is one of the most important training targets from the viewpoint of tactics in pommel horse. We invented a new training device based on the idea of methodical sequence of exercises (Fetz, 1964). This device was aimed at helping athletes to master the elements of the pommel horse by subdividing the practice stages. We also investigated the usefulness of this device for the acquisition of certain other elements in pommel horse (Watanabe & Murayama, 2007; Murayama, 2007). However, these studies didn't focus on the Magyar. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a coaching method with this device for the acquisition of the Magyar. A coaching program for the acquisition of the Magyar was designed, and this program made use of the device. The program was then practiced by the students of a gymnastics club. Finally, the training process was analyzed from the viewpoint of phenomenological movement theory. The results were as follows: 1)The length of the training process decreased in spite of an increase in the number of practice stages. 2)The device facilitated the formation of a similar movement as the target movement (Magyar). 3)The movement conception of the target movement could be developed easily by repeating this movement. Building the correct movement conception is very important for the acquisition of technique (Grosser & Neumaier, 1982). Therefore, it is concluded that the coaching method with our training device is effective for the acquisition of the Magyar.

      • A practical report on the coaching of "Inner front support on low bar – clear hip circle through handstand with flight to hang on high bar (Schaposchnikova) " of uneven bars in artistic gymnastics

Daisuke MURAYAMA 한국코칭능력개발원 2021 International Journal of Coaching Science Vol.15 No.2

In the research trend of international gymnastics research, biomechanical analysis and sociological research of techniques are the main focus, and the development of teaching methods for techniques is currently entrusted to coaches. The coaching method of "Inner front support on low bar – clear hip circle through handstand with flight to hang on high bar (Schaposchnikova)" are not report. The purpose of this study was to report on the author"s original coaching process of Schaposchnikova and to obtain useful knowledge for the development of teaching methods for the element. The author has coached Schaposchnikova for two gymnast so far. The coaching process and the process of modifying the coaching method based on the experience were proposal of coaching method, and arrangement of coaching methods based on the experience of coach for gymnast-A & gymnast-B. In this report, a coaching method has been proposed for Schaposchnikova, which has not been reported so far, and it has been clarified that the coaching process can be validated to a certain extent based on the coaching experience of the two athletes. And this experience not only demonstrated the importance of pre-practice readiness checks, but also showed that at each practice stage, the coach was required to have the ability to decide whether to proceed to the next step or not.

      • Ability to reconstruct practice tasks required of a coach - Taking the example of “Any 3/3 travel in flairs with 1/1 spindle inside two circles (Urzica 2)” in the pommel horse -

Kojiro Yanagi,Kiyora Ito,Daisuke Murayama 한국코칭능력개발원 2024 International Journal of Coaching Science Vol.18 No.1

At a training site that encourages athletes to generate movement, it may not be possible to successfully generate a sense of movement simply by presenting the athletes with step-by-step practice published in general instruction manuals; the coach is required to tailor the road individually to the goal. In competitive sports that require high performance, there is a strong interest in the optimal road of coaching. However, few studies have clarified the coachs ability to build practice procedures by real coaching spot. The purpose of this study was to focus on the ability of coaches to build staged practice, and to present how to teach “Any 3/3 travel in flairs with 1/1 Spindle inside two circles (Urzica 2)” in the pommel horse in gymnastics, and by considering this from a phenomenological standpoint, we aim to gain new knowledge regarding the structure and modification ability of coachs practice stages. The method of this study was to select University Gymnast-A from among 20 male university gymnast participants and analyze them. The first step was to conduct a structural analysis of the target elements as a prerequisite for constructing the technical training path. Next, in order to analyze the structure of the practice stages, kinesthetic coaching for Gymnast-A was presented. Finally, the coachs kinesthetic orientation was analysed from a phenomenological standpoint. In the analysis, a phenomenological reflective analysis was conducted to examine how the coach constructed practice stage suitable for the players from the perspective of kinesthetic meaning and suitability of arrangement. It is important to get high scores in gymnastics competition to this element (Urzica 2) acquiring, and it is one that top gymnasts in recent years have incorporated into their performance program. This phenomenological analysis of the construction of the practice stages of the element not only provided new insights into the construction of the coachs practice stages and his ability to modify them, it also provided effective insights into the coaching of high-difficulty elements in gymnastics.
