          Control of Nonlinear Systems Represented by Galerkin Models Using Adaptation-based Linear Parameter-varying Models

          This paper studies the control of nonlinear Galerkin systems, which are an important class of nonlinear systems that arise in reduced-order modeling of infinite-dimensional systems. A novel approach is proposed in which a linear parameter-varying (LPV) model representing the Galerkin model is built, where the parameter variation is dictated by a specially designed adaptation scheme. The controller design is then carried out on the simpler LPV model, instead of dealing directly with the complicated nonlinear Galerkin system. An automatically scheduled H-infinity controller is designed using the LPV model, and it is proven that this controller will indeed achieve the desired stabilization when applied to the nonlinear Galerkin model. The approach is illustrated with an example on cavity flow control, where the design is seen to produce satisfactory results in suppressing unwanted oscillations.

          Chiral [Iminophosphoranyl]ferrocenes: Synthesis, Coordination Chemistry, and Catalytic Application

          A series of new chiral [iminophosphoranyl]ferrocenes, {${\eta}^5-C_5H_4-(PPh_2=N-2,6-R_2-C_6H_3)$}Fe{${\eta}^5-C_5H_3-1-PPh^2-2-CH(Me)NMe_2$} (1: R = Me, $^iPr$), {${\eta}^5{-C_5H_4-(PPh_2=N-2,6-R_2}^1-C_6H_3)$}Fe{${\eta}^5-C_5H_3-1-(PPh_2=N-2,6-R_2-C_6H_3)-2-CH(Me)R_2$} (2: $R^1\;=\;Me,\;^iPr;\;R^2\;=\;NMe_2$, OMe), and $({\eta}^5-C_5H_5)Fe${${\eta}^5-C_5H_4-1-PR_2-2-CH(Me)N=PPh_3$} (3:R = Ph, $C_6H_{11}$) have been prepared from the reaction of [1,1'-diphenylphosphino-2-(N,N-dimethylamino) ethyl]ferrocene with arylazides (1 & 2) and the reaction of phosphine dichlorides ($R_3PCl_{2}$) with [1,1'-diphenylphosphino-2-aminoethyl]ferrocene (3), respectively. They form palladium complexes of the type $[Pd(C_3H_5)(L)]BF_4$ (4-6: L = 1-3), where the ligand (L) adopts an ${\eta}^2-N,N\;(2)\;or\;{\eta}^2$-P,N (3) as expected. In the case of 1, a potential terdentate, an ${\eta}^2$-P,N mode is realized with the exclusion of the ?=NAr group from the coordination sphere. Complexes 4-6 were employed as catalysts for allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenylallyl acetate leading to an almost stoichiometric product yield with modest enantiomeric excess (up to 74% ee). Rh(I)-complexes incorporating 1-3 were also prepared in situ for allylic alkylation of cinnamyl acetate as a probe for both regio- and enantioselectivities of the reaction. The reaction exhibited high regiocontrol in favor of a linear achiral isomer regardless of the ligand employed.

          GRADIENT ALMOST RICCI SOLITONS WITH VANISHING CONDITIONS ON WEYL TENSOR AND BACH TENSOR

          In this paper we consider gradient almost Ricci solitons with weak conditions on Weyl and Bach tensors. We show that a gradient almost Ricci soliton has harmonic Weyl curvature if it has fourth order divergence-free Weyl tensor, or it has divergence-free Bach tensor. Furthermore, if its Weyl tensor is radially flat, we prove such a gradient almost Ricci soliton is locally a warped product with Einstein fibers. Finally, we prove a rigidity result on compact gradient almost Ricci solitons satisfying an integral condition.

          Gastric Cancer Presenting as a Krukenberg Tumor at 22 Weeks' Gestation

          Gastric cancer is rare during pregnancy, and often advanced upon presentation. A Krukenberg tumor presents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge in the pregnant patient. We present a case of a 38-year-old woman at 22 weeks' gestation who presented with worsening epigastric pain, and was found to have a left pelvic mass on ultrasound, which was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. She went into active labor and delivered a viable infant via vaginal delivery. An exploratory laparotomy revealed a large mass originating from her left ovary and diffuse thickening of the lesser curvature of the stomach. Frozen section investigation revealed the presence of signet cell adenocarcinoma. Subsequent upper endoscopy showed linitis plastica, while biopsy confirmed the presence of adenocarcinoma. In conclusion, the occurrence of gastric cancer in pregnancy is rare despite extremely common symptoms. The management poses a challenge because of the need for early treatment, and the continuation of the pregnancy.

        • The Movement Sciences and Dance Research : Past, Present, and Future

          It is a great honor to be here today among such a prominent group of delegates. I thank the Organizing Committee for this exciting opportunity. The theme of the conference, which focuses on how we, as researchers and educators, may contribute to improve the quality of human life, covers a wide spectrum of disciplines. Dance science, one of these research areas, addresses an art that represents one of many categories of human physical activities. What differentiates dance from sport and other physical activities is its intent. Unlike sports where the primary intent is to perform to a level that enables victory over an opponent, the intent of dance is to communicate a message to an audience. How, therefore, may dance contribute to improve the quality of human life? Todays education policymakers increasingly promote a holistic approach to curriculum development, an approach that may help younger generations to cope with contemporary societys challenging lifestyle changes. The arts, more specifically dance, is amongst the few cultural activities which promote opportunities to enjoy beauty, express views, emotions, dreams, and ideas, and even challenge the status quo. As spectators, creators, or performers, experiencing the arts can enrich our lives in a number of ways. Engage in multisensory visualization for a moment to appreciate the joy of making beautiful music, watching a play, dancing, or admiring a favorite painters masterpiece in a spacious museum. The arts can complement an individuals intellectual, physical, and affective needs for a balanced life. What do we know about dance, about learning dance skills? What do we know about instructional methods and cognitive processes which lead to superior performance? Answers to these questions may be found in the movement sciences, In fact, many of the areas of specialization listed for this conference do include dance. There are research areas such as dance training, dance medicine, dance technology, dance psychology, and dance biomechanics. This paper will concentrate mainly on the contribution of the discipline of motor learning to dance science. A brief historical background will first be presented, followed by the present status of dance science, and future directions. However, I would like to conclude this introduction by offering a general definition of dance, based on Hannas (1999) theory. First, dance consists of expressive movements and specialized skills. Professional dancers, like top athletes, have developed their motor skills over years of rigorous training. They have developed superior motor control for highly complex and aesthetically pleasing movements. These dancers communicate the artists message to an audience. Second, dance is generally performed with others on a limited space. This implies that dancers must synchronize their movements and relate to each other. Third, dance movements are rhythmical and performed to music or some form of accompaniment. Some choreographies are performed to highly complex music, which increases the level of difficulty of dance skills. For example, the dance Gloria by Mark Morris, was intended to illustrate the great music of Vivaldi. Finally, dance is a culturally influenced activity which has symbolic potential. It has, and continues to play a crucial role in world communities, as a vehicle for communication and a reflection of social values.

          Endogenous Market Structures in International Trade with Incomplete Information

          This paper introduces incomplete information into Horstmann and Markusen's [1992] model where the determination of the equilibrium market structure is endogenized. Market structure is derived as Nash equilibrium in a simple model with international trade and foreign direct investments. I show that depending on the "quality" of information firms have regarding the environment, e.g., demand conditions, equilibrium market structure can be different from the full information one. Because industry market structure is affected by the information firms have, in addition to tax and trade policies, governments can use informational campaigns to affect industry market structure if by doing so country welfare improves.(JEL: F.           Breeding of the Mini-Type Phalaenopsis Cultivar ‘Yellow Green', Having Deep-yellow Flowers with a Red Lip

          A new Phalaenopsis cultivar, ‘Yellow Green', was bred at Kangsan Orchid, Korea. The new cultivarhas small, deep-yellow flowers with a red lip, and was introduced by artificial crossing of thePhalaenopsis cultivar ‘Sogo Pride F-1016' and the Phalaenopsis cultivar ‘Tzu Ching Glint'. Theelite individual KS-752-1, later named as ‘Yellow Green', was selected among 300 individualprogenies through over three years (2008-2010) of intensive selection for excellent vegetative andflowering characteristics. In the 1st (2011-2013) and 2nd (2014-2015) years of breeding, characteristicanalysis was performed through stability and uniformity tests. ‘Yellow Green' has flowers that aredeep-yellow (RHS#: 5A) with a red lip (RHS#: N74A) and are small in size, measuring 4.6 cm inlength and 4.9 cm in width. The flowers are light-green at the beginning and gradually turn todeep-yellow. Also, the flower buds are produced easily. ‘Yellow Green' flowers are a compoundraceme type, suitable for pot cultivation. Its leaves grow horizontally and are about 17.5 cm inlength and 6.2 cm in width. This cultivar is characterized by the absence of genetic variation, fast invitro propagation, and vigorous growth that facilitates cultivation. This cultivar was registered(Reg.#:6268) with the Korea Seed & Variety Service (KSVS) on July 18, 2016, and the plantbreeder's right is currently owned by the Kangsan Orchid Company, Korea.
