• Cross-Domain Service Composition in OSGi Environments

LEE, Choonhwa,LEE, Seungjae,KIM, Eunsam,LEE, Wonjun The Institute of Electronics, Information and Comm 2009 IEICE transactions on information and systems Vol.92 No.6

This letter presents a new approach to provide inter-domain service compositions for OSGi environments. Our proposal of remote wire objects extends OSGi's wiring capability across the framework boundaries, so that even remote services can join in the composition. Hence, a better composition is made possible with a richer set of candidate services from foreign domains.

      • Boosting P2P Streaming Performance via Adaptive Chunk Selection

LEE, Choonhwa,KIM, Eunsam The Institute of Electronics, Information and Comm 2011 IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS - Vol.eb94 No.10

This paper presents a novel chunk selection strategy for peer-to-peer video streaming, called enr-first selection policy, which simultaneously considers both block rarity and playback deadline. The policy intends to boost overall network-wide streaming performance, while ensuring good playback continuity of individual peers. The efficacy of the proposed scheme is validated through our performance evaluation study that demonstrates a substantial gain.

      • Universal interactions with smart spaces

        Lee, Choonhwa,Helal, S.,Lee, Wonjun IEEE 2006 IEEE pervasive computing Vol.5 No.1

A critical challenge facing the pervasive computing research community is the need to manage complex interactions among numerous interconnected computers and devices. In such a pervasive space, a given application's functionalities are partitioned and distributed across several computing devices that are spontaneously discovered and used. In recent years, researchers have devoted much attention to universal interactions with diverse devices in richly networked settings. We can categorize the numerous approaches explored into two groups: universal user interface languages and user interface remoting. We review recent noteworthy efforts for universal interactions using these two approaches. Such efforts aim to raise interoperability in interactive smart spaces by standardizing user interface languages or communication protocols.

      • Enriching OSGi Service Composition with Web Services

LEE, Choonhwa,KO, Sunghoon,KIM, Eunsam,LEE, Wonjun The Institute of Electronics, Information and Comm 2009 IEICE transactions on information and systems Vol.92 No.5

This letter describes combining OSGi and Web Services in service composition. According to our approach, a composite service is described in WS-BPEL. Each component service in the description may be resolved to either an OSGi service or Web Service at runtime. The proposal can overcome current limitations with OSGi technology in terms of its geographical coverage and candidate service population available for service composition.

A popularity-aware prefetching scheme to support interactive P2P streaming

Choonhwa Lee,Euiyoung Hwang,Dohoo Pyeon IEEE 2012 IEEE transactions on consumer electronics Vol.58 No.2

Improved interactive functionality is considered the next crucial milestone for a wider acceptance, when it comes to P2P-based streaming service over the Internet. As the streaming systems evolve, users expect to have full control over what they view and how they view it. This paper presents a viable solution to support user interactivity for P2P VoD streaming service. Our proposal of popularity-aware chunk prefetching protocol is capable of tracking chunk popularities over a video, based on which chunk prefetching priority can be ordered. The proposal achieves superior seeking latency to existing approaches, which results in a significant enhancement of streaming performance. Our performance study demonstrates that the proposed scheme excels in terms of user interactivity as well as streaming quality.

Acculturation and SLA - A case of Korean students in an American University

        Choonhwa Lee(이춘화) 한국외국어교육학회 2006 Foreign languages education Vol.13 No.2

The present study investigated the relationships between acculturation and English learning among Korean students at an American university. A survey was conducted with 115 students whose first language is Korean. Data was collected through an acculturation questionnaire, self perceived Korean and English proficiency questionnaire and background questionnaire. ANOVA, Post Hoc Tests, Group comparison and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. The majority of students in the survey chose bicultural adaptation as their strategy for acculturation and did not lose Korean cultural identity although some of them exhibited linguistic assimilation. In the four group comparisons based on acculturation types, students in a high bicultural tendency group reported the greater level of English proficiency. The results of multiple regression showed that students’ age of arrival in the U.S, their level of American acculturation, and gender (male), were important predictors of their English proficiency. Different from the assimilation theory in second language acquisition both integration into American society and positive acceptance of Korean culture and identity seemed to be important processes for their achievement of successful English learning as well as for their successful acculturation. In conclusion, the pedagogical implication of the finding and future research were suggested.

Optimal transmission policies for MOT in T-DMB

        Donghwan Lee,Jihoon Choi,Kyunghwi Kim,Wonjun Lee,Choonhwa Lee IEEE 2007 IEEE communications letters Vol.11 No.12

The Multimedia Object Transfer (MOT) protocol in Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) systems inherently does not facilitate return paths in data transmission and therefore additional policies are required to envision further efficient reliable media broadcasting. This letter proposes novel optimal transmission policies for MOT standard definition in T-DMB. The proposed broadcasting policies drastically enhance the capability of conventional MOT protocol.

        소년형사사건 처리절차의 문제점과 개선방안

        이춘화(Lee, ChoonHwa) 한양법학회 2010 漢陽法學 Vol.29 No.-

This study has considered juvenile criminal justice process in the viewpoint of labeling theory that a labeling effect of juvenile delinquents by criminal justice system can intensify delinquent behavior of juveniles. The issues and the improvement plans as results of the study are the following. The first, it is necessary to provide ‘the releasement with supervision’ as interventional diversion in juvenile act for revitalization of the releasement with caution. Thus, it should be relieved a criterion of the releasement with caution to juvenile delinquent as compared with adult. The second, ‘the suspension of prosecution with supervision of probation office’ caused a new legal labeling because the probation office assumed supervision of juvenile delinquent. Therefore, it is necessary to construct ‘the multi organ cooperative system’ that the juvenile delinquency prevention center takes charge of the hub for minimization of legal intervention. The third, it should be provided a closed hearing in juvenile act, and obeyed completely the separation principle of hearing in practice. it is also necessary to consider introduction of ‘the civic participation system by continental mixed jury system’ only for juvenile criminal justice because ‘the civic participation trial by jury system’ has high possibility of labeling effect to juvenile delinquents. The fourth, there is dangerousness that quite a number of the unconvicted detentions are drawn out because juvenile justice procedure is administered in two ways in Korea. Therefore, it should be introduced a supervision by ‘the investigator for determination of punishment’ as an alternative of the arrest. Furthermore, it is necessary to consider an unification of juvenile justice procedure.

Movement-Aware Vertical Handoff of WLAN and Mobile WiMAX for Seamless Ubiquitous Access

        Wonjun Lee,Eunkyo Kim,Joongheon Kim,Inkyu Lee,Choonhwa Lee IEEE 2007 IEEE transactions on consumer electronics Vol.53 No.4

This paper addresses a movement-aware vertical (MAV) handover algorithm between WLAN and Mobile WiMAX for seamless ubiquitous access. An MAV handover algorithm is proposed in this paper to exploit movement pattern for avoiding unnecessary handovers in the integrated WLAN and Mobile WiMAX networks. If a mobile station (MS)'s velocity is high and its movement pattern is irregular, unnecessary handovers likely occur more frequently. Therefore, the MS velocity and moving pattern are important factors for the handover decision procedure. To avoid unnecessary handovers, the MAV handover algorithm adjusts the dwell time adaptively and predicts the residual time in the cell of target base station (BS). Consequently, the adaptive dwell timer of MAV handover algorithm allows an MS a better connection as long as possible. Our simulation results show that the reduction of unnecessary handovers by leads to significant throughput improvements.
