Opportunities and Challenges for Application of Poultry Science and Technology into the 21st Century

Prospects are briefly reviewed for further advances in current poultry industry technology in the foreseeable future. It is concluded that in the most advanced industries progress should continue at a similar rate to the recent past in conventional genetics and breeding, nutrition and disease control. Significant benefits will also follow in the short-term from the application of molecular biotechnology to disease diagnosis and vaccine production. Technical advances now make it possible to produce transgenic chickens at acceptable success rates but applications of this technology to poultry breeding will not become significant till we have sufficient knowledge of the poultry genome, and especially the genes involved in production performance. For the undeveloped and less advanced industries it is argued that the level of advanced technologies to be implemented in those countries should be decided largely on market forces, informed by objective assessment of the diverse options available. The need for urgent international action on conservation of poultry genetic resources is also stressed.
Electrical Modeling of Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Storage Devices

This paper focuses on the electrical modeling techniques of renewable energy sources and storage devices such as batteries, fuel cells (FCs), photovoltaic (PVs) arrays, ultra-capacitors (UCs), and flywheel energy storage systems (FESS)<br/> All of these devices are being invest1gated recently for their typical storage and supply capabilities for various industrial applications Hence, these devices must be modeled precisely taking into account the concerned practical issues. An obvious advantage of electrically modeling these renewable energy sources and storage devices is the fact that they can easily be simulated in real-l1me in any CAD simulation program. This paper reviews several types of suitable models for each of the above-mentioned devices and the most appropriate model amongst them is presented. Furthermore, a few important applications of these devices shall also be highlighted.
기존 악곡을 이용한 시창 청음훈련이 오류검출 능력에 미치는 효과

기악 음악교육 전공인 대학생들 대상으로 기존 악곡을 이용한 시창 청음훈련이 음높이와 리듬의 오류검출 능력에 미치는 효과를 조사하였다. 실험집단(n_1=15)과 통제집단(n_2=15)은 기악지도법과 지휘에 관하여 동일한 훈련을 받았다. 실험집단은 여러 개의 밴드 레퍼토리로부터 뽑은 자료를 가지고 11주간동안 시창 청음훈련을 매주 50분씩 받았다. 실험대상자들이 한 개, 두 개, 세 개의 성부를 갖는 호모리듬과 폴리리듬의 예에서 오류를 찾는 테스트를 하고 그 결과를 조사하였다. 결과는 리듬과 음높이 오류검출에서 의미있는 차이를 나타냈다. 실험집단은 통제집단에 비해 오류검출을 더 잘하였다. 그들의 성적은 한 성부에서 제일 좋았고, 다음 두 성부, 세 성부 순이었다. 짜임새로 인한 차이는 별로 없었다. 기존 악곡을 이용한 시창 청음훈련과 연습은 단기간의 오류검출 능력개발에 효과가 예상된다. Effects of contextual sight-singing and ear training on pitch and rhythm error detection abilities among undergraduate instrumental music education majors were examined. Experimental(n_1=15) and control(n_2=15) groups received identical training in instrumental methods and conducting. Experimental subjects additionally received 50 minutes of sight-singing and ear training per week over 11 weeks using materials drawn from extant band repertoire. Subject responses to errors in one-, two-, and three-part homorhythmic and polyrhythmic examples were examined. Results showed significant differences in correct detection of rhythm and pitch errors. Experimental subjects were better at error detection compared to control subjects. Subjects were better at detecting rhythm errors compared to pitch errors. They were best with one-part, did less well with two-part, and least well with three-part examples. Differences attributable to texture were not significant. Contextual sight-singing and aural skills training and practice may have contributed to short-term development of error-detection abilities.
