Objectives: Chronic rhinitis may contribute to a persistently decreased quality of life in patients undergoing surgical treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This study aimed to characterize the role of OSA in pediatric patients with refractory chronic rhinitis after adenoidectomy. Methods: We reviewed the charts of patients <18 years of age with a history of OSA who underwent adenoidectomy at an academic medical center from October 2012 to December 2018 and that were seen in the clinic for follow-up. They were identified through the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes 42830 and 42831 with the exclusion of CPT 42820 for tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Patients with a prior diagnosis of OSA who had refractory symptoms were compared with those who had symptoms resolution using chi-square analysis and t-tests.Results: Thirty-six (35.0%) patients with refractory symptoms following adenoidectomy and 52 (37.4%) patients without refractory symptoms had a history of OSA before surgery (<i>p</i>=0.80). In patients with refractory symptoms, the average age (3.8 years) and male sex (n=24, 66.7%) did not differ significantly from the age (4.42 years) and male sex (n=36, 69.2%) percentages of patients without refractory symptoms. The mean apnea/hypopnea-index (AHI) (<i>p</i>=0.91), completion of the sleep study (<i>p</i>=0.41), history of snoring (<i>p</i>=0.92), and tonsil size (<i>p</i>=0.42) did not differ significantly between the groups. However, patients with refractory symptoms had a significantly higher mean body mass index (BMI) (19.58) than those who did not (17.77, <i>p</i>=0.04) and completed a higher number of allergy evaluations (<i>p</i>=0.02).Conclusions: While the history and severity of OSA did not differ significantly in patients with refractory nasal symptoms after adenoidectomy, these patients had a significantly higher BMI and completion of allergy evaluation.

This paper deals with the design of a microstrip line feed toppled T shaped microstrip patch antenna that gives dualband characteristics at 4 GHz and 6.73 GHz respectively. The simulation of proposed antenna geometry has been performed using method of moment based IE3D simulation software. A radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) is used for the estimation of bandwidth for dualband at 4 GHz and 6.73 GHz respectively. In RBFNN model, antenna parameters such as dielectric constant, height of substrate, and width are used as input and bandwidth of first and second band is considered as output of the network. To validate the RBFNN output, an antenna has been physically fabricated on glass epoxy substrate. The fabricated antenna can be utilized in S and C bands applications. RBFNN results are found in close agreement with simulated and experimental results.

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer in women all over the world and accounts for ~25% of newly observed cancers in women. Epigenetic modifications influence differential expression of genes through non-coding RNA and play a crucial role in cancer regulation. In the present study, epigenetic regulation of gene expression by in-silico analysis of histone modifications using chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-Seq) has been carried out. Histone modification data of H3K4me3 from one normal-like and four breast cancer cell lines were used to predict miRNA expression at the promoter level. Predicted miRNA promoters (based on ChIP-Seq) were used as a probe to identify gene targets. Five triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC)-specific miRNAs (miR153-1, miR4767, miR4487, miR6720, and miR-LET7I) were identified and corresponding 13 gene targets were predicted. Eight miRNA promoter peaks were predicted to be differentially expressed in at least three breast cancer cell lines (miR4512, miR6791, miR330, miR3180-3, miR6080, miR5787, miR6733, and miR3613). A total of 44 gene targets were identified based on the 3'-untranslated regions of downregulated mRNA genes that contain putative binding targets to these eight miRNAs. These include 17 and 15 genes in luminal-A type and TNBC respectively, that have been reported to be associated with breast cancer regulation. Of the remaining 12 genes, seven (A4GALT, C2ORF74, HRCT1, ZC4H2, ZNF512, ZNF655, and ZNF608) show similar relative expression profiles in large patient samples and other breast cancer cell lines thereby giving insight into predicted role of H3K4me3 mediated gene regulation via the miRNA-mRNA axis.

<P>2-Bromo-6-hydroxybenzofurans are potentially versatile intermediates for the divergent synthesis of numerous benzofuran-based natural products and their analogues. Herein we report the first one-pot strategy for the efficient synthesis of 2-bromo-6-hydroxybenzofurans. The present protocol provides shorter routes for the synthesis of moracins M, N, O and P; gramniphenols F and G; and morunigrol C using a protecting group-free approach.</P>
