• Tunnel access for ridge augmentation: A review

        D’Albis Giuseppe,D’Albis Vincenzo,Cesário de Oliveira Júnior Jonhson,D’Orazio Fabrizio 대한치과이식(임프란트)학회 2021 The Korean Academy of Implant Dentistry Vol.40 No.2

In traditional bone regeneration, the periosteal layer of the flap must be released to achieve tension-free primary wound closure. Several minimally invasive tunnel techniques have been introduced to augment the bone volume for prosthetic-driven implant placement, thus minimizing tissue trauma and patient morbidity. This literature review aimed at analyzing the available literature on ridge augmentation with a lateral tunnel access approach, and detailed the surgical protocols, materials, advantages, indications for use, disadvantages, and complications. The Medline and PubMed medical databases were searched for reports published between 2005 and March of 2021. Seventeen articles describing minimally invasive tunnel techniques for ridge augmentation were identified. Preservation of the integrity of the periosteum has been found to be the determining factor in reducing postoperative pain and improving wound vascularization. Studies have reported encouraging data on the bone volume obtained for implant-prosthetic rehabilitation using this technique.

Benefits and Spillover Effects of Infrastructure: A Spatial Econometric Approach

Kim, Kijin,Lee, Junkyu,Albis, Manuel Leonard,Ang, Ricardo III B. Korea Institute for International Economic Policy 2021 East Asian Economic Review Vol.25 No.1

This paper estimates the effects of transport (road and rail) & energy and ICT infrastructure (telephone, mobile, and broadband) on GDP growths in neighboring countries as well as own countries. We confirm positive direct contributions of infrastructure, access to Internet, and human capital on economic growth. The spatial panel regression models indicate that there exist positive externalities of the broadband infrastructure and human capital, and these results are robust regardless of the choice of spatial weight matrices. Our findings on spillover effects of infrastructure suggest the key role of neighboring countries' infrastructure on own country's economic growth.

      • Pressureless Euler alignment system with control

Albi, Giacomo,Choi, Young-Pil,,ck, Axel-Stefan World Scientific Publishing Company 2018 MATHEMATICAL MODELS & METHODS IN APPLIED SCIENCES Vol.28 No.9

We study a non-local hydrodynamic system with control. First, we characterize the control dynamics as a sub-optimal approximation to the optimal control problem constrained to the evolution of the pressureless Euler alignment system. We then discuss the critical thresholds that lead to global regularity or finite-time blow-up of strong solutions in one and two dimensions. Finally, we use a finite volume scheme, coupled with an implicit-explicit time integrator to solve numerically the stiff scale of the controlled system. Several numerical simulations are shown to validate the theoretical and computational results of the paper.

      • Insomnia in Cancer - Associations and Implications

George, Mathew,Elias, Alby,Shafiei, Mohsen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.15

Background: Insomnia is a common condition in cancer patients. In spite of the high prevalence its associations have not been well studied. Existing data suggests that insomnia is related to depression and pain. However, the impact of ongoing chemotherapy on sleep is not investigated. Aim: To study the relationship between insomnia and chemotherapy after analysing confounding variables. Materials and Methods: Consecutive patients who visited New England Oncology Clinic in Tamworth were recruited. Insomnia was assessed with the Bergen insomnia scale. The Montgomery Asberg Depression rating scale was used to measure depression. Pain was assessed with the Brief Pain inventory. Chronic medical conditions, type of cancer, side effects to chemotherapy, role of steroids and other drugs were studied as confounders. Results: A total of 56 patients participated in the study. Age ranged from 33 to 83 years (mean: 63.6, SD=10.97). There were 29 men and 27 women. 42 patients received at least one form of chemotherapy and 15 were receiving radiotherapy at the time of assessment. Mean insomnia score was significantly higher in those receiving chemotherapy than in those without chemotherapy (8.92 vs 17.2, two tailed p=0.005, 95% CI=2.63-13.71). There was no significant variation in insomnia scores in terms of chronic medical condition, type of cancer, psychiatric history, use of steroids or adverse effects of chemotherapy. However, total insomnia score was correlated with depression rating score (Pearson correlation, r=0.39, p=0.003) and magnitude of pain (r=0.37, p=0.006). On regression analysis only pain was found to be predictive of insomnia. Conclusions: Insomnia in patients with cancer is found to be associated with concurrent chemotherapy and correlated with degree of depression and pain. Identifying factors related to insomnia in cancer population has implications in its management and patient education.
