Immune Defense of Rats Immunized with Fennel Honey, Propolis, and Bee Venom Against Induced Staphylococcal Infection

Sayed, S.M.,El-Ella, Ghada A. Abou,Wahba, Nahed M.,Nisr, Neveen A. El,Raddad, Khaled,Rahman, M.F. Abd El,Hafeez, M.M. Abd El,Aamer, Ahmed Abd El Fattah The Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition 2009 Journal of medicinal food Vol.12 No.3

The objective of this work was to evaluate the potency of bee product-immunized rats to overcome an induced Staphylococcus aureus infection. Forty rats were divided to eight groups: T1, T3, and T5 received, respectively, fennel honey, ethanol, and aqueous propolis extracts orally, and T2, T4, and T6 were administered the respective materials intraperitoneally; T7 received bee venom by the bee sting technique; and T8 was the control group. All groups were challenged by a bovine clinical mastitis isolate of S. aureus. Each rat received 2mL of broth inoculated with $1{\times}10^5$ colony-forming units/mL intraperitoneally. Two weeks post-induced infection all rats were sacrificed and eviscerated for postmortem inspection and histopathological study. Three rats from T8 and one rat from T7 died before sacrifice. Another two rats, one each in T4 and T5, had morbidity manifestations. The remaining experimental animals showed apparently healthy conditions until time of sacrifice. Postmortem inspection revealed that all T8 rats showed different degrees of skeletal muscle and internal organ paleness with scattered focal pus nodules mainly on lungs and livers. All rats of the treated groups showed normal postmortem features except three rats. A dead rat in group T7 showed focal pus nodules on the lung surface only, whereas the affected two rats in groups T4 and T5 appeared normal except with some pus nodules, but much smaller than in the control, scattered on the hepatic surface and mesentery. Histopathological studies revealed that T8 rats had typical suppurative bronchopneumonia and or severe degenerative and necrobiotic changes in hepatic tissues. Three affected rats of the treated groups showed slight bronchopneumonia or degenerative hepatic changes only. The other animals of the treated groups showed completely normal parenchymatous organs with stimulated lymphatic tissues. It was concluded that all tested previously bee product-immunized rats could significantly challenge the induced S. aureus infection (P < .01). The effects were more pronounced in rats that had received fennel honey solution.

        Pβ-connectedness in grill topological spaces

Abd El Fattah El Atik,Atef Hussien 원광대학교 기초자연과학연구소 2021 ANNALS OF FUZZY MATHEMATICS AND INFORMATICS Vol.22 No.1

A grill-$P_{\beta}$-connectedness is more generalization of $P_{\beta}$- connectedness and connectedness and amounting to grill-preconnectedness. The properties of this motif are studied and its relationship with other forms of grill-connectedness. Grill locally preindiscrete spaces are defiened as the spaces in which grill-preopen sets are grill-closed. In these spaces grill connectedness becomes amounting to grill preconnectedness and hence to grill-$P_{\beta}$-connectedness, and grill-semi-connectedness becomes equivalent to grill-$P_{\beta}$-connectedness. The motif of locally grill-$P_{\beta}$-connected space is introduced.

A Novel Synthesis of Heterocyclic Compounds Containing Coumarin Moiety of Potential Antimicrobial Activity

El-Fattah, M. E. Abd The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1998 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.21 No.6

The chemical behaviours of 4-methyl-2-oxo-2H-benzopyran-7-yl oxoacetyl hydrazine (2) towards some different reagents such as anhydride compounds, aromatic aldehydes, carb on disulphide, and nitrous acid yielded the corresponding pathalazine derivatives (3, 4, 5), hydrazone derivative (6), 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivative (7, 8, 9) and acid azide (10) respectively. Treatmen of 10 with absolute alcohols, amines and ethyl amino acid ester gave the corresponding carbamate derivative (11), substituted urea derivative (12) and ethyl substituted alkyl acetate (13) respectively. The biological activity of some synthesized compounds was evaluated.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition and antioxidant activity of commercial dairy starter cultures

        El-Fattah, Alaa Abd,Sakr, Sally,El-Dieb, Samia,Elkashef, Hany 한국식품과학회 2016 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.25 No.6

In this study, skim milk fermented with 14 commercial dairy starters were evaluated for their proteolysis ability, angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE)-I, and antioxidant properties. The antioxidant activity was determined using DPPH radical scavenging, chelating of $Fe^{2+}$ ions, and reducing power assays. The results showed that the coagulation time, pH, and titratable acidity varied among the used starters and appeared to be starter dependent. Lactobacillus helveticus Lh-B02 starter had the highest proteolytic and ACE-I activity. Lactobacillus casei-01, Yo-Fast 1, YC-281, MYE 96, and YO-MIX 205 starters had the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity. Chelating of $Fe^{2+}$ ions of the L. casei-01 starter was the highest, whereas the O-114 starter was the greatest in reducing power. Regarding the yogurt starters, Yo-Fast 1 starter exhibited high values of proteolytic, ACE-I, and DPPH radical scavenging activity. A positive correlation was observed between the proteolytic and ACE-I or antioxidant activities of all starters.

      • A FUZZY-BASED APPROACH FOR TRAFFIC JAM DETECTION

Abd El-Tawaba, Ayman Hussein,Abd El Fattah, Tarek,Mahmood, Mahmood A. International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.12

Though many have studied choosing one of the alternative ways to reach a destination, the factors such as average road speed, distance, and number of traffic signals, traffic congestion, safety, and services still presents an indisputable challenge. This paper proposes two approaches: Appropriate membership function and ambiguous rule-based approach. It aims to tackle the route choice problem faced by almost all drivers in any city. It indirectly helps in tackling the problem of traffic congestion. The proposed approach considers the preference of each driver which is determined in a flexible way like a human and stored in the driver profile. These preferences relate to the criteria for evaluating each candidate route, considering the average speed, distance, safety, and services available. An illustrative case study demonstrates the added value of the proposed approach compared to some other approaches.

Partial Confinement Utilization for Rectangular Concrete Columns Subjected to Biaxial Bending and Axial Compression

Abd El Fattah, Ahmed M.,Rasheed, Hayder A.,Al-Rahmani, Ahmed H. Korea Concrete Institute 2017 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.11 No.1

The prediction of the actual ultimate capacity of confined concrete columns requires partial confinement utilization under eccentric loading. This is attributed to the reduction in compression zone compared to columns under pure axial compression. Modern codes and standards are introducing the need to perform extreme event analysis under static loads. There has been a number of studies that focused on the analysis and testing of concentric columns. On the other hand, the augmentation of compressive strength due to partial confinement has not been treated before. The higher eccentricity causes smaller confined concrete region in compression yielding smaller increase in strength of concrete. Accordingly, the ultimate eccentric confined strength is gradually reduced from the fully confined value $f_{cc}$ (at zero eccentricity) to the unconfined value $f^{\prime}_c$ (at infinite eccentricity) as a function of the ratio of compression area to total area of each eccentricity. This approach is used to implement an adaptive Mander model for analyzing eccentrically loaded columns. Generalization of the 3D moment of area approach is implemented based on proportional loading, fiber model and the secant stiffness approach, in an incremental-iterative numerical procedure to achieve the equilibrium path of $P-{\varepsilon}$ and $M-{\varphi}$ response up to failure. This numerical analysis is adapted to assess the confining effect in rectangular columns confined with conventional lateral steel. This analysis is validated against experimental data found in the literature showing good correlation to the partial confinement model while rendering the full confinement treatment unsafe.

Biological activities of lactobacilli relevant to cardiovascular health in skim milk

Alaa Abd El-Fattah,Sally Sakr,Samia Mahmoud El-Dieb,Hany Elkashef 한국식품과학회 2017 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.26 No.6

In this study, skim milk was fermented using 14 Lactobacillus strains for 16 h at 42 °C or for 48 h at 25 °C. On conclusion of fermentation, the proteolytic, angiotensin converting enzyme-inhibitory (ACE-I), and antioxidant activities as well as the inhibition of thrombin and cholesterol micellar solubility were determined. The results revealed that Lb. paracasei B-4564 exhibited the highest ACE-I activity (68.11%) under the 42 °C for 16 h condition, while Lb. rhamnosus B-1445 demonstrated the highest ACE-I activity (92.23%) under the 25 °C for 48 h condition. Lb. paracasei B-4564 exhibited the highest inhibition rate of thrombin (42.43 and 48.10%) and cholesterol (68.60 and 87.01%) under the 42 °C for 16 h and 25 °C for 48 h conditions, receptively. Lb. rhamnosus B-442 exhibited the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity of 95.63 and 62.89% under the 42 °C for 16 h and 25 °C for 48 h conditions, receptively. Lb. rhamnosus B-1445 demonstrated the highest Fe2+ chelating activity and reducing power under both the tested fermentation conditions.
