Indium tin oxide (ITO) used as an electrode in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) was modified by a self-assembled monolayer (SAM). For device fabrication, surface of the ITO was modified by immersion in a solution including various phosphonic acid at room temperature in order to increase work function of an electrode. The work function of ITO with SAM was measured by Kelvin probe. Work function increase of 0.88 eV was observed in ITO with various SAM. Therefore, ohmic contact is achieved in an interface between ITO and organic semiconductors (pentacene). We analyzed the origin of work function increase of ITO with SAM by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. We confirmed that increase of oxygen bonding energy attributed to increase the work function of ITO. These results suggested that ITO with the SAM gives a high possibility for high performance of OLEDS and OTFTs.
N<sub>2</sub>O 반응 가스를 주입한 RF Reactive Magnetron Sputtering에 의한 ZrO<sub>2</sub> 박막의 구조 및 부식특성 연구

A $ZrO_2$ thin film as a corrosion protective layer was deposited on Zircaloy-4 (Z-4) clad material using $N_2O$ as a reactive gas by RF reactive magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The Z-4 substrate was located in plasma or out of plasma during the $ZrO_2$ deposition process to investigate mechanical and corrosive properties for the plasma immersion. Tetragonal and monoclinic phases were existed in $ZrO_2$ thin film immersed in plasma. We observed that a grain size of the $ZrO_2$ thin film immersed in plasma state is larger than that of the $ZrO_2$ thin film out of plasma state. In addition, the corrosive property of the $ZrO_2$ thin films in the plasma was characterized using the weight gains of Z-4 after the corrosion test. Compared with the $ZrO_2$ thin film immersed out of plasma, the weight gains of $ZrO_2$ thin film immersed in plasma were larger. These results indicate that the $ZrO_2$ film with the tetragonal phase in the $ZrO_2$ can protect the Z-4 from corrosive phenomena.

To prevent degradation of battery efficiency generated by serious current variation in rechargeable batteries, we researched a hybrid battery combining a super capacitor and a rechargeable battery. The hybrid battery shows high efficiency in a lifetime and a voltage drop. The hybrid battery was composed of a rechargeable battery, a current regulator and a super capacitor that can be used with supporting power. Before the experiment, the hybrid battery was simulated for current regulation and an electric current in a super capacitor by using the Pspice program. After that, we compared the efficiency of the hybrid battery with the efficiency of the normal battery. In this result, we demonstrated that the hybrid battery has a higher efficiency and a longer lifespan than the normal battery.

While commercialization of IoT technologies in the safety management sector is being promoted in terms of industrial safety of large indoor businesses, implementing a system for risk management of small outdoor work sites with frequent site movements is not actively implemented. In this paper, we propose an efficient dynamic workload balancing strategy which combined low-power, wide-bandwidth (LPWA) communication and low-power Bluetooth (BLE) communication technologies to support customized risk management alarm systems for each individual (driver/operator/manager). This study was designed to enable long-term low-power collection and transmission of traffic information in outdoor environment, as well as to implement an integrated real-time safety management system that notifies a whole field worker who does not carry a separate smart device in advance. Performance assessments of the system, including risk alerts to drivers and workers via Bluetooth communication, the speed at which critical text messages are received, and the operation of warning/lighting lamps are all well suited to field application.

백라이트유닛을 더 얇고 밝게 제안하기 위하여 우리는 새로운 타입의 백라이트유닛을 시뮬레이션하였다. 도광판 상면에 미세 볼록렌즈어레이를 형성시킨다. 또한, LGP와의 매칭을 위하여 우리는 기능성 광학 시트를 시뮬레이션하였다. 일반적으로 전통적인 백라이트유닛들은 하나의 LGP와 네 개의 광학시트를 사용해왔으나 우리는 하나의 광학시트를 사용한 백라이트유닛을 시뮬레이션하였다. 설계 결과 우리의 백라이트유닛은 동일한 발광성을 달성하면서 시야각은 30% 더 좋아진 것을 밝혀내었다. In order to obtain thinner and brighter backlight units (BLU), we simulated a new-type backlight unit. A micro-lens array sheet was formed on the upper plane of the light guide plate (LGP) comprising the backlight unit. Also, in order to match with the LGP, we simulated a functional optical sheet. The conventional BLU uses one LGP and four optical sheets, but we simulated a BLU that uses one optical sheet. Simulation results have revealed that our BLU can achieve the same luminance and 30% better view angle as compared with conventional ones.

This study aimed to evaluate the performance of diffusion barriers in order to prevent fuel-cladding chemical interaction (FCCI) between the metallic fuels and the cladding materials, a potential hazard for nuclear fuel in sodium-cooled fast reactors. In order to prevent FCCI, Zr or V metal is deposited on the ferriticmartensitic stainless steel surface by physical vapor deposition with a thickness up to 5㎛. The diffusion couple tests using uranium alloy (U-10Zr) and a rare earth metal such as Ce-La alloy and Nd were performed at temperatures between 660~800℃. Microstructural analysis using SEM was carried out over the coupled specimen. The results show that significant interdiffusion and an associated eutectic reaction ocurred in the specimen without a diffusion barrier. However, with the exception of the local dissolution of the Zr layer in the Ce-La alloy, the specimens deposited with Zr and V exhibited superior eutectic resistance to the uranium alloy and rare earth metal.
