2022 개정 초등역사 교육과정은 중등과의 연계성을 고려한 초등학생들에게 적절한 의미 있는 내용을 구성하여 초등역사교육의 정체성을 확보하기 위한 노력 속에 개발된 교육과정으로 볼 수 있다. 이글에서는 2022 개정 초등역사 교육과정의 개정 방향과 특징 및 한계와 가능성을 살펴보았다. 개정의 방향 및 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 역사 학습의 기초가 되는 역사 개념을 중심으로 내용을 선정・조직하여 역사의 의미를 이해하고 역사 학습에 관심과 흥미를 가질 수 있게 하였다. 특히 일상에서 과거를 만나며 학생의 일상적인 생활 경험을 바탕으로 역사 학습을 시작하고 자신을 역사적 존재로 인식하도록 하였다. 둘째, 고장-지역으로 구분하여 내용을 선정・조직하던 지역사를 ‘지역’으로 통합하여 구성하였다. 셋째, 국가나 민족 중심의 거대 담론에서 생활사를 통한 다양한 사람들의 삶의 이야기로 역사 서사를 새롭게 구성하도록 하였다. 넷째, 다양한 자료를 활용한 역사 탐구 기능을 강화하여 역사 학습의 본질적 속성을 구현하려고 하였다. 다섯째, 성취기준을 포괄적이고 추상적으로 제시하여 교사들이 교육과정을 자율적으로 재구성해 수업할 수 있도록 하였다. 이러한 변화에도 불구하고 여전히 기계적인 통합단원 구성과 성취기준의 선정・조직 문제, 세계사의 도입 등 여러 가지 과제가 남아 있다. 교육과정 개정이 의미 있는 변화로서 자리하기 위해서는 2022 개정 초등역사 교육과정의 개정 취지를 잘 살린 교과서의 개발이 중요하다. 초등학생들이 역사의 의미를 이해하고 과거 사람들의 삶을 구체적으로 만날 수 있는 역사 서사가 구현된 교과서가 개발되길 기대한다. The 2022 revised elementary history curriculum can be seen as a curriculum developed in efforts to secure the identity of elementary history education by organizing meaningful contents suitable for elementary school students in consideration of their connection with secondary school. In this article, we looked at the direction, characteristics, limitations, and possibilities of the 2022 revised elementary history curriculum. The direction and characteristics of the amendment are as follows. First, the contents were selected and organized around the concept of history, which is the basis of history learning, so that the meaning of history could be understood and interested in history learning. In particular, he met the past in his daily life and started learning history based on the student's daily life experience and recognized himself as a historical being. Second, the local history that selected and organized the contents by dividing them into regions was integrated into “regions.” Third, the historical narrative was newly constructed from the stories of various people's lives through life history in a huge discourse centered on the state or ethnicity. Fourth, it was intended to realize the essential properties of history learning by strengthening the function of history exploration using various materials. Fifth, achievement standards were presented comprehensively and abstractly so that teachers could autonomously reorganize and teach the curriculum. Despite these changes, various tasks remain, such as the composition of mechanical integrated members, the selection of achievement standards, organizational problems, and the introduction of world history. In order for the revision of the curriculum to become a meaningful change, it is important to develop textbooks that make good use of the purpose of the revision of the 2022 revised elementary history curriculum. We hope that textbooks that embody historical narratives will be developed where elementary school students can understand the meaning of history and meet the lives of people in the past in detail.
