우리의 삶 속에는 수많은 통계가 있다. 통계는 계량화라는 과정을 통해 개념적인 것들을 실체로 드러내 주면서 사회경제 전반에 걸쳐 영향을 미쳐 왔다. 이러한 과정에서 정책 입안자들은 통계의 힘을 빌려 정책을 추진해 왔다. 하지만 아직도 많은 의사 결정이 과학적이고 객관적인 통계 수치보다는 전문가 의견에 기초한다. 특히, 경제협력개발기구(OECD)나 세계보건기구(WHO)와 같은 국제기구가 신뢰할 만하고 정책 민감성도 높은 통계를 생산·제공하고 있음에도 불구하고, 현실 세계에서 많이 쓰이지 않는 이유는 무엇일까· 이 글에서는 국제기구 통계에 대한 보건 분야의 정책 입안자의 수요를 확인하고, 법정계획 속에서의 활용 현황을 점검하였다. 이에 따르면, 국제기구 통계의 정책적 활용성을 높이기 위해서는 이용자의 요구를 체계적으로 진단하고, 통계 정보 이용의 편의성을 높이기 위한 노력을 계속해야 한다. There are many statistics in our lives. Statistics have had an impact on the entire socio-economy by revealing conceptual things as a reality through the process of quantification. Policy makers harness the power of statistics to implement policies. However, many decisions are still based on expert opinions rather than scientifically objective statistics. International organizations such as the OECD and the WHO produce and provide reliable and policy-sensitive statistics, but why are they not widely used in the real world? In this article, the demand for the statistics of international organizations by policy makers in the health sector was confirmed, and the use of statistics in national plans was checked. The findings suggest that continuous efforts are needed to systematically diagnose users' demands and increase the convenience of using statistical information in order to increase the utilization of international organizations' statistics.
