목소리 표기 체계를 기반으로 한 감정 전달 - 키네틱 한글꼴 ‘보이스폰트’를 중심으로 -

오늘날 디지털 환경에서의 문자 기능은 읽기와 쓰기 위주의 기존 영역을 넘어 다양한 감정적 소통까지 확장(황민선, 2006)되었다. 목소리는 일상생활에서 감정을 소통하는 주요 매개체로 일반 글자보다 더욱 많은 정보를 내포(Parlak & Diri, 2013; Gobl, 2003)한다. 본 연구는 이러한 목소리의 특징을 표기하는 문자 체계를 개발하여 글자를 통한 표현 영역을 확장시키고자 하였다. 이를 위해 키네틱 글자꼴(kinetic typeface)인 보이스폰트를 개발하였으며 글자의 움직임을 활용하여 목소리의 감정을 표현하고자 하였다. 보이스폰트의 글자 인식, 음성 인식, 감정 인식의 여부를 파악하기 위해 전문가 조사를 실시하였으며 조사 결과로 모든 영역에서 인식이 가능하다고 나타났다. 세부적으로는 음성적 특징이 감정보다 더욱 잘 인식되었으며 소리 구성 요소 중 목소리의 높이 표현이 목소리의 특징과 감정을 인식하는데 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 보다 실질적인 연구의 적용을 위해서는 이러한 조사 결과를 바탕으로 목소리 표기 체계를 보완해 나가야 하며 이와 동시에 사용자 반응 조사 또한 진행되어야 한다. In digital era, the role of written language has been expanded from simple reading and writing to emotional communication. Human voice plays a major part in communication and contains much more information than a written language. This study aims to challenge the traditional role of written language by introducing a voice writing system. To do this, Voice Font, a kinetic typeface, has been designed to deliver emotions of a human voice through a movement of letters. In order to find out about performances of Voice Font on the areas such as delivering verbal meaning, vocal characteristics, and emotional status, a expert survey has been conducted in typography and design field. A result of a survey shows that all of the areas have been delivered successfully, and vocal characteristics was recognized the most. Among elements of voice, loudness, pitch, and length, pitch was appeared to deliver both vocal characteristics and emotional status most successfully. For a practical use of Voice Font, the voice writing system must be revised and developed based on the result of the study. Moreover, series of user test must be proceeded simultaneously.
