그래픽 기술 발달로 인해 3D 게임은 높은 해상도와 다양한 캐릭터 스타일로 제작되고 있다. 몰입감 있는 3D 게임을 만들기 위해서는 게임이 지향하는 상호작용적인 화면 환경이나 배경 분위기와 플레이 방식에 적합한 사실적 캐릭터 그래픽 형식을 선택해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 게임 그래픽 요소 중 캐릭터 활용에 주목했다. 인간의 모습과 감정을 표현할 수 있는 사실적인 인간형 캐릭터는 효과적으로 몰입을 유도할 수 있지만, 인간과의 유사도가 높은 대상에서 느껴지는 위화감, 언캐니 밸리(Uncanny Valley) 현상을 고려하여 신중하게 제작되어야 한다. 사실적인 인간형 게임 캐릭터를 활용한 인터랙티브 무비 게임 ‘디트로이트:비컴 휴먼’, 서바이벌 호러 게임 ‘레지던트 이블 빌리지’, 서바이벌 배틀 게임 ‘배틀그라운드’, MMORPG 게임 ‘검은사막’을 분석 대상으로 선정하였다. 게임의 장르와 플레이 방식에 적합한 캐릭터 활용 방법들을 분석하고, 결과적으로 적합한 사실적인 인간형 게임 캐릭터 활용 방안을 제안하였다. Due to the development of graphics technology, 3D games are being produced in high resolution and various character styles. In order to create an immersive 3D game, you need to choose a realistic character graphic format suitable for the interactive screen environment or background atmosphere and play method that the game aims for. In this paper, we focused on the use of characters among game graphics elements. Realistic human characters that can express human appearance and emotions can effectively induce immersion, but they should be carefully produced in consideration of the incompatibility and the Uncanny Valley phenomenon felt in objects with high similarities to humans. Interactive movie games ‘Detroit: Become Human’, survival horror games ‘Resident Evil Village’, survival battle games ‘Battleground’, and MMORPG game ‘Black Desert’ were selected for analysis. The methods of using characters suitable for the genre and play method of the game were analyzed, and as a result, a realistic human-type game character utilization plan was proposed.
