본 연구는 1959년 최홍희가 주도한 국군태권도시범단이 결성된 이래로 53년 만에 창단된 제3야전군 전문 태권도시범단의 창단배경과 전개과정을 고찰하여 향후 국군태권도시범단이 나가야할 방향을 제시하는 데 연구의 목적이 있다. 결과에 따르면 첫째, 제3야전군 태권도시범단은 2012년 국가행사 및 국방부 행사와 민·관·군이 주관하는 행사에서의 태권도시범 지원을 통해 각 기관의 유대를 강화하고 정체되어 있는 군 태권도의 활성화를 위한 목적으로 창단되었다. 둘째, 매 년 20회 이상의 주요행사시범에서 군 특유의 강한 시범을 보여줌으로써 ‘전투형 강군’에 대한 인식을 확산시키는데 기여하였다. 셋째, 2013년 태권도의 실전성을 강조한 전투태권도를 개발하여 전 군 보급을 추진함으로써 군 태권도의 활성화를 도모하였고, 전투태권도를 통한 주한미군과의 대회 및 교육 교류를 통해 한·미군의 유대강화에도 일익을 담당하였다. 넷째, 국기원(2012), 경기도태권도협회(2013), 한국민속촌(2013), 세계태권도연맹(2017)과의 MOU 체결을 통해 민·관·군의 유기적인 공조를 이루었다. The purpose of this study is to examine the establishment and development process of the 3rd Field Army Taekwondo Demonstration Team which was established in 53 years following the first establishment of the Korean Armed Forces Taekwondo Demonstration Team in 1959 and to present a direction in the future for the military Taekwondo Demonstration Team. The study findings and results are as follows. First, the 3rd Field Army Taekwondo Demonstration Team was established in 2012 playing a key role in a bid to strengthen ties of relevant organizations through the support of Taekwondo demonstrations in a variety of events and to reinvigorate the military Taekwondo that has been rather sluggish. Secondly, the team has contributed to raising and spreading the awareness of ‘aggressive combat-type forces’ through a strong demonstration of Taekwondo. Third, the team has promoted military Taekwondo by developing and spreading militant Taekwondo with emphasis on the practicality of Taekwondo in 2013, and made contributions to building up bondage between Korean and American Armies through Taekwondo alternating events. Fourth, an organic cooperation has been achieved among private, public, and military sectors by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Kukkiwon, Gyeonggi-do Taekwondo Association, and Korean Folk Village etc.

본 연구는 한국 태권도 시범단의 활동과 시범프로그램의 내용을 규명하고 그 의미를 고찰하여 미래 태권도시범 프로그램의 방향을 제시하는 데 연구의 목적을 두었다. 결과에 따르면, 첫째, 1963년∼1970년대까지의 시범프로그램은 무도성을 강조한 위력적인 정통태권도였으며, 이러한 시범은 사람들의 이목을 끌며 태권도를 단기간에 홍보하고 저변확대를 이룰 수 있는 기틀을 마련하였다는데 의미가 있다. 둘째, 1980년대는 86아시안게임, 88서울올림픽의 성공개최의 홍보를 위해서 태권도 시범 프로그램이 다양화 되었으며, 이는 올림픽종목으로서의 태권도 홍보와 보급에 기여했다는 데 의미가 있다. 셋째, 1990년대는 정식 태권도시범단이 발족됨에 따라 시범프로그램이 전문화된 양상을 보였다. 이는 2000년대에 태권도 시범이 공연예술로서 발전할 수 있는 토대를 마련하였다는 데 의미가 있다. 넷째, 2000년대는 문화체육관광부에서 태권도를 문화홍보 수단으로 지정하면서 시범 프로그램이 공연예술화 되는 경향을 보였으며 이는 태권도를 홍보하는 데 그치지 않고 더 나아가 문화외교의 첨병 역할을 담당했다는 데 의미가 있다. The purpose of this study is to examine how demonstration programs have been changed concretely from historical perspectives with the activities of Korea Taekwondo demonstration teams and suggest measures to develop Taekwondo demonstration teams further afterwards. First, in the initial period from 1963 till the 1970’s, Taekwondo demonstration programs consisted of highlight tenacity as martial arts. Second, In the 1980’s, the 86 Asian Games and 88 Seoul Olympics were decided to be held in Korea and Taekwondo demonstration programs became more diversified. Third, In the 1990’s, Taekwondo demonstration became specialized. Fourth, in the 2000’s, Taekwondo was developed as cultural product representing Korea. And the Taekwondo demonstration program was developed in the form of performances integrating diverse genres.
