This paper studies on the Korean word recognition using the semi-continuous hidden Markov model(SCHMM) which approximate the discrete hidden Markov model(DHMM) to the continuous hidden Markov models(CHMM). In generating of this model, the output probability of an input vector, which is assumed to the mixture continuous Gaussian distribution, is linearly combined with the probability function of each input vector and the symbol output of codewords for approximating to the CHMM, In the word recognition, this model recognized words more correctly than the DHMM because of reducing a quantized distortion due to the DHMM. In order to evaluate this model, comparing experiments between DHMM and SCHMM are carried out for DDD area names. Also, input vector takes the traditional LPC or the LPC cepstrum using euclidean distance. As a result, recognition rate of the SCHMM using the LPC cepstrum is improved.

In this paper, we implemented the hangeul tactile recognition system for the Blind. The system is consist of hardware part and software part.The hardware part is consist of a scanner interface image processing system, a electro tactile output device inter and auser interface. The software system consist of pattern learning routine,image processing and character pattern output routine, file management and operation window routine. The 16 by 16 of return electrode is driven by a electro-tacttile device. The recognition experimention distinguished learning beforefrom learning after,after learning the recognition rate is higher than learning before. As a results of experimentation before and after learning,the later is superior to the former. Therefore,if learning is increased, we can take higher recognition rate.

In this paper, the low wattage electronic ballast for double ended 70W metal halide lamp has been investigated. To prevent a physical destruction of lamp from acoustic resonances, the proposed ballast operates at high frequency(200KHz) range square-wave alternating voltage to a metal halide lamp, reduce the start up time of lamp and electric power consumption. Besides ac voltage prevent wearing the one of a pair electrode in arc discharging. As a result, this lamp experiment shows 82W and 0.34A imput power and tube current, respectively. Lamp luminous flux is 5300lm with 82W input power and ballast efficiency is 64.63lm/w. The average starting time and restarting time of lamp are 3.9 min and 4.5 minute, respectively.
