`일본시찰단`의 근대관광적 성격 - 근대성의 양면성(로고스-에로스) 개념을 중심으로 -

한일 양국간의 관광에 대한 연구는 경제적인 측면을 주로 다루어 왔으나 최근 여러 측면으로 다양한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그 예로서 일제 식민지 하에서의 관광 연구도 활발해 지고 있다. `일본시찰단`은 일제 식민지하에서 조선총독부, 자치단체, 민간단체 등을 통해 이루어진 시찰단이나 관광단을 말하며 일본의 식민지 정책의 일환으로 보아왔다. 그러나 본고에서는 `근대적 관광의 욕구충족`이라는 능동성에 초점을 맞추어 근대성을 확인하려고 한다. 식민지 조선에서의 관광은 서양의 근대관광이나 그것을 바탕으로 한 일본의 근대관광과는 다소 차이가 있는 것이 사실이다. 1910년대의 초반에는 주로 의도된 정책의 시찰단이었지만 후반부터는 박람회 시찰, 유적지 관광 등이 좀 더 다양한 계층에서 이루어졌고 1930년대에는 전시하의 `성지순례`등의 시찰단이 주를 이루었다. 식민지 하에서의 시찰단 성격, 시찰지역, 개인감상문을 닝왕의 근대의 양면성 개념(로고스-에로스)을 적용하여 보면, 그들은 강요되고 억압된 수동성의 관광 속에서도 욕구, 본능, 정열, 상상력을 추구하였다는 능동성을 엿볼 수 있다. 제한적으로 근대관광의 시작으로 보아온 `일본시찰단`의 성격에 관광을 통해 얻어지는 욕구충족을 더한다면 한국 근대관광의 시초로 파악하여도 무리가 없을 것이다. There is a tendency that studies on tourism between Korea and Japan have focused on economical aspect. But recently, the study of tourism between Korea and Japan has been conducted in various aspects. One of them is that the study of tourism on the Japanese imperialism period is being conducted actively. There was the group of observation trip to Japan that means the group of observation trip or group tourists mediated by the Japanese Government-General of Korea, a local government or a private organization The purpose of this paper is to make sure of modernity by focusing on the activity that satisfy desires through modern tourism. It is obvious that Joseon-people tour in Japanese imperialism era was different from modern Western or Japanese tourist imitating Western modernity. The intension of Joseon-people tour was the observation tour for a policy objective in the early part of 1910s. After that, the purpose of Joseon-people tour was mainly the inspection to exhibition or a tour of historical place. In 1930s, tourists of various class mainly visited the Holy Land in Japan during 1930s` of war. I make sure that they had activities to pursue desires, instinct, passion and imagination by applying Ning Wang` concept of two-facedness of modernity(Logos-Eros) to the character, the inspection place and reports of observation tourists to Japan. Even though it is difficult to regard Korean observation tourist to Japan in Japanese imperialism era as the beginning of modern tourism, it is able to say that at least, their trip to Japan was the beginning of modern tourism of Korean because of satisfying their desires by that.
