Great mountains such as Kumgang Mountain have been the subject of a great number of the Korean poems which in turn give them diverse expressions. The mountain poems written by the scholars were different from those by the Buddhistic monks. First, whereas the scholars, in their poems on Kumgang Mountain, interpreted Buddhism through nature, the monks interpreted nature through the Buddhistic doctrines, Secondly, the scholars depicted the Mountain realistically as a place for purifying themselves, whereas the monks saw nature as a place for their disciplines.
