This study re-conceptualizes the convention and exhibition as a knowledge market to better understand how ICT technology and market globalization change the way the convention and exhibition is provided. To explain the creation, conversion and expansion of knowledge, four types of knowledge transformation process (socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization) were studied. As “knowledge exchange market”, convention and exhibition events are often viewed as “socialization” process in which people meet face-to-face and share “tacit” knowledge in the event venue which becomes a “temporary cluster.” This is the traditional mode of convention and exhibition. Nowadays, however, new ICT technology such as internet, teleconference, VR, IoT etc. is increasingly employed to produce new modes of convention and exhibition. For instance, on-line conference or cyber art exhibitions are examples of the “combination” of explicit knowledge to create value. The new understanding of convention and exhibition from knowledge theory will enable us to see more confidently how this business will unfold in the future.
