강원도 겨울철 세시풍속은 산간민속의 원형을 유지하고 있다. 오랫동안 산천을 중히 여기던 풍속을 지니고 있으며 자연을 좋아하는 심성을 지닌다. 특히 눈이 많이 오는 겨울철에는 눈과 관련된 민속이 전승되고 있다. 겨울철 세시풍속은 납설수와 설경구경이 있다. 음력 12월날에 내리는 눈을 ‘납설수(臘雪水)’라 하는데 병을 다스린다 한다. 또한 납일 눈이 녹은 물을 취하여 저장하여 두고 약에 쓰고, 눈의 물로 물건을 담그면 벌레가 나지 않는다 한다. 겨울철에 내리는 ‘설경(雪景)구경’이 하나의 풍속이다. 문인들이 매양 저문 해에 눈이 쌓이면 산의 절과 강의 정자에 모임을 가지면서 술마시고 시를 짓는 문학적 모임도 갖는다. 강원지역에서 눈 오는 날에는 ’첫눈 받아먹기’ 풍습이 전한다. 이것은 섣달에 오는 첫 눈을 받아서 먹으면 눈이 밝아지고 몸이 좋아진다고 한다. 흰 눈처럼 눈이 밝아지라는 뜻을 담고 있다. 또한 눈이 많이 오면 ‘참새잡이’를 하는데, 눈이 오면 마당에 덫을 놓고 먹이를 갖다 놓으면 참새를 잡기 쉽다. 특히 납일에 참새를 잡아먹으면 좋다고 해서 처마에 둥지를 튼 참새를 많이 잡아 먹는다. 눈이 오면 산간에서는 수렵으로 멧돼지 사냥을 다니기도 하였으며, 아이들은 썰매타기와 눈싸움놀이를 하였다. 강원도의 산간마을에서는 겨울이 되면 눈에 발이 빠지지 않게 ‘설피’를 만들어서 신고 다니고 아이들은 썰매를 만들어서 타고 다닌다. 썰매는 놀이로도 하지만, 사냥을 할 때도 사용한다. 그리고 얼음에 구멍을 내고 하천의 물고기를 잡는 미끼낚시질과 그물낚시질도 하였다. 이것으로 어죽과 어탕을 끓여 먹는 것도 겨울철 시식(時食)이다. 강이나 호수에 얼음이 얼면 용이 밭을 갈아 놓은 것으로 보고 풍흉을 점치는 용경점(龍耕占)을 쳤다. 이러한 민속소재는 2018평창동계올림픽에서 강원도 산간지역 세시풍속을 알리고, 세계적 관심을 끌 수 있는 개폐회식 공연작품화에 필요한 콘텐츠라 하겠다. In addition, it is believed that if we take and store the water in which napilnun is melt as medicine, insects do not gather around things which are dipped in the snow water. ‘Snow-scene Viewing’ is another custom during the winter with snow. When snow lay thick on the sunset, literary have a literary meeting in a pavilion as well as in a temple of a mountain, drinking and making poems. The Gangwon region has a custom of ‘Eating the First Falling Snow’ when it snows. It is said that eating the first falling snow in the twelfth month of the lunar year helps us have better eyesight and keep good health. It contains the meaning of having good eyesight like white snow. Furthermore, when it snows heavily, ‘Hunting Sparrows’ starts, and when it snows, sparrows are hunt easily by a trap and prey. Specially, it is told that eating sparrows on napil brings good luck, so they hunt and eat sparrows a lot which build nests. When it snowed, hunting boars were very popular in mountain villages, and children enjoyed sledding and snowball fight. When winter comes, mountain villagers make and put on ‘snowshoes’ in order to prevent their feet from sinking in the snow, and children ride sleds. The sled is used for amusement, but also used for the purpose of hunting. Moreover, they enjoyed bait fishing and net fishing that are used to catch river fishes after digging holes in ice. Eating fish rice porridge and fish stew with the caught fishes a taste of the winter season. When ice formed, they thought that a dragon plowed a field and told fortunes with the dragon’s farming (Yonggyeonggeom). This folklore subject is considered to be a content that is required for the performance work for the opening and closing ceremony that can draw the world-wide attention as well as inform the seasonal customs of the Gangwon-do region in the 2018 Pyeong Chang Winter Olympic Games.
