In the knowledge-information age, Korean society has tried to find a new driving force to become an advanced country. To do so, a big number of government innovation have been carried out, yet it's still difficult to say that our government's competitiveness meets the people's expectations. In this circumstances, one of the possible alternatives is to strengthen the Strategic Human Resource Management(SHRM), which helps the government to maintain its competitive advantage by emphasizing human capital. Therefore this study examines not only the meaning and cases of the SHRM in the public sector but also its the relationship with the government's competitiveness. The policy implication of this study is that each public agency has to strengthen its strategic planning aligned with HRM, consider the vertical and horizontal integration among HR practices and emphasize the importance of the human capital.
