When a structure is built on the ground under consolidation, the instant corresponding contact pressure which the upper structure exerts on the ground is established. But, as the consolidation of the ground proceeds, the contact pressure is changed because of the flexural rigidity of the upper structure. This varied contact pressure exerts influence on the consolidation behavior of the ground. And, this varied consolidation behavior exerts on the contact pressure in return. This kind of interaction between the upper structure and the lower ground under consolidation continues till all the consolidation process is finished. So this problem cannot be defined as a linear problem. In this paper an approximation method which can analyse this non-linear interaction problem is proposed by the FEM.

The consolidation behavior considering the interaction of the upper structure and the lower foundqation is analysed by the finite element method in this paper. And the corresponding variations of the effective stress, consolidation displacement, contact pressure and the bending moment of the upper structure are discussed.

When consolidation proceeds on the ground which supports upper concrete plate, because of the flexural rigidity of the upper structure, the contact pressure and the consolidation behavior exert influence on each other continuously. So it can be defined as non-linear interaction problem. In this paper, two iteration methods designed by the author to analyze this non-linear problem are presented. And the variations of the bending moment and deflection of the upper plate by the two methods according to the consolidation are compared.

When the elastic foundation is analysed by the Boussinesq's solution, the contact stress and deflection are influenced by not only the direct-upper loading but also the non-direct-upper loading. In this paper, when the ratio of the two sides' lengths of the upper rectangular loading plate varies in three typical cases, the contact stress and deflection are analysed.

In this paper, a method to handle the consolidation behavior of grounds which support upper structures is propose by the finite element method. The variation of the bending moments of the upper structure according to the consolidation is studied. And the corresponding reinforcement is also studied.
