Young and older generations who experienced quite different process of political socialization may have different understandings of political ideology. This research goes one step closer to the reality of ideological conflicts in our society by identifying the differences between young and older generations in recognizing ideological conflicts. To this end, this paper tries to find an answer to the three assumptions. First, the determinants of political ideology may be different for the two generations because they experienced different process of political socialization. Second, the gap between conservatives and progressives may appear different for the two generations. Third, the two generations may have different representation of political ideology. North Korea policy was the most important determinant of political ideology for older generation, while issue of distribution and growth was the most critical variable for young generation. Young generation showed less differences in their policy attitude between conservatives and progressives compared to older generation. In terms of ideological representation, the negative perception between conservatives and progressives was much weaker for young generation compared to older generation.
