이 논문은 이병혁 심리사회연구에 따라 강박적 소비의 정신역동을 드러낸 민족지(빈네트)를 분석한 것으로서 두 부분으로 나누어진다. 첫째 부분은 이병혁 심리사회연구의 기본 관점, 방법론적 초점 및 분석 수준(기초적 방법연구, 민족지 분석에 입각한 경험적 사례연구, 정책대안 연구)을 설명한 것이다. 이병혁은 주체성과 문화에 대한 라깡 정신분석적 입론을 정립하고, 전통적인 사회학의 통계조사방법과 인지심리학의 실험모델을 넘어 임상실천을 통해 발전된 질적 연구방법을 민족지 분석의 형태로 체계화하였다. 둘째 부분은 이병혁의 민족지 분석기법에 따라 강박적 구매 장애에 대한 임상자료를 생산하고 이 자료를 라깡 정신분석의 ‘향락’과 ‘실재’ 개념으로 해석한, 강박적 소비에 관한 이데올로기 분석이다. 필자는 강박적 소비에서 향락이 강박적 구매 장애의 발발을 지속적으로 조건화하는 병리적 기제(‘탈승화’)의 형성을 밝힌다. 정상적 소비자가 소비행위를 통해 상품의 사용가치를 향유하고 기호가치를 인정하면서 사회적(상징적) 정체성을 획득하는 반면, 강박적 소비자는 이러한 소비과정을 작동시키는데 실패하여 자신의 정체성 형성에 심각한 장애를 일으킨다. 이러한 향락의 기능화는 상품 구매를 통한 주체의 만족을 끝없이 연기시켜 결국 강박적 소비자가 일상생활에서 정체성 위기 또는 의미상실을 경험하도록 유도한다. 끝으로, 필자는 상품의 기호가치를 개인적 의미 획득과 사회적 정체성 형성의 수단으로 전환하는데 ‘필요한 향락’의 생산을 강조함으로써 주체성의 회복을 제언하고 있다. This article is to analyze ethno-graphical vignette revealed the psycho-dynamic of obsessional consumption in terms of Byung-hyuk Lee’s Psycho-social Studies, and roughly divided into two parts. In the first part, I position Byung-hyuk Les’s research work as a form of ethno- graphical studies and have an effort to acquaint the readers with Lee’s Lacanian Psychoanalytic viewpoints, analytic method of ethnographies, contents and level of his research work etc. He elaborated how psychoanalytic thinking can add to the understanding of subjectivity and cultures and systematized analytic method as a form of ethno-graphical studies rooted in clinical practice, getting over statistical survey in traditional sociology and experimental model in cognitive psychology. In the second part, I consider some of the issues involved in the use of Lacanian psychoanalytic concepts(“jouissance” or “the Real”) as an analytic instrument of obsessional consumption and its ideology, and then try to clarify what kind of activity we are engaged in when I use Lee’s methodological techniques on the analysis of ethnography to assist us in the interpretation of clinical materials of compulsive buying disorder. It is argued that enjoyment plays a crucial role of structuring pathological mechanism(“de-sublimation)” for compulsive buyers, whereas symbolic identity is created through consumption of commodities with certain sign-values for normal buyers. In order for the normal consumer to redeem the commodity’s sign-value she must be able to enjoy its use-value. The compulsive buyer lacks this ability to enjoy, causing a fundamental disturbance in her identity as consumer. The compulsive buyer is characterized by failing to make this process of consumption work. This functioning of enjoyment in obsessional consumption induce the obsessive buyer to identity crisis and existential meaning loss in everyday life. Finally, I argued to have the resilience of the subjectivity for producing enough enjoyment to converse the sign-value of commodities into personal meaning and social identity.

Ever since the day of pre-modernized society where the farming skill had been in the stagnant condition, the common farmwoodlands have been utilized in common (collectivelly) by villagers in order to harvest farmwoodlands and fuelwoods. Later, during the process of modernization, most of the common farmwoodlands were transferred into national or public forests by the administrative enforcement, but there were still various types of village (common) forests such as the common forests owned by joint owners, village block associations, village forest productive societies, Village Forestry Association(V.F.A.), and the national or public forests leased to V.F.A. As Village Forestry Association is organized with a few villages, each of common forests ow nod to the villages is obliged to be diversely controlled by other managers than the chief of V.F.A. Therefore, it is to be desired that the control of common forests should be under Gun Forestry Association Union. While the rate of the use of common forests for fuelwoods and cemetery has been considerably high, villagers wish to promote the timber forest establishment through the collective management by their improved farming skills and economical situations. In these present circumstances the village forest productive societies should be guided to work in closer cooperation with Gun Forestry Association Union. Since the management of common forests is still extensive, it still remains in the semi-management condition under which we can not find any management plan or measure to control forest damage. Especially the small area common forests should have appropriate size for the joint management. This will promote the forest productivity through the lease for reforestation of disposable national forests or public county forests and the contracts for profit sharing. Today owing to increasing forest value, frequent dispute has occurred on the common right telated to the village forests and rationalization of forest managemnt has been disregarded. If a necessary measure were taken to control the dispute such as transferring the registeration right of ownership to the village forest productive society, the confidence of local inhabitants can be regained and the productivity of forests can be naturally increased.
